Motogadget Led Indicators / Flash Rate / Resistors?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Desmodaddy, Mar 21, 2021.

  1. The previous owner of my 2006 Sport Classic 1000 Monoposto had installed DP rear LED indicators. All turn signals had a good flash rate. I wanted to replace the OEM front indicators by Motogadget Mo.Blaze Pin LED indicators. The front and rear right turn signals (RH) now flash at a normal rate after (!) I switched polarity on the front right indicator. Weird but true. The front and rear left LED indicators (LH) still flash rapidly when switched on. I also bought Motogadget Mo.Flash relays but after reading some threads I'm not sure if I even need to install one. Motogadget delivered the flash relays with 2x resistors but I'm not sure about the color code (5-band, red-red-black-red-red). Please advise? Thanks!

  2. Thanks Chris.
I can solder a bit and I tried connecting the Motogadget resistor - 5-band, red-red-black-red-red or 22k Ohm?) to the LH front turn signal as follows: one end of the resistor to both positives of the LED & red wire coming from the OEM battery and the other end of the resistor was soldered to the black wires coming from the indicato & battery. The LH indicators keep flashing too quickly. Is the resistor not the right Ohm size? Is it wired the wrong way? The RH indicators blink accordingly.

  3. What Ohm value and PCS would you recommend?

  4. Try the 10 ohm

  5. OK tks Chris. Will let you know.

  6. I just received the 10 Ohm ones and soldered one resistor in parallel to the front LH indicator: still blinking too fast. Please advise - tks much.

  7. Do you have access to an old 12v filament bulb. If you do solder a wire to the base and one to the side. Leave the LED indicator connected and connect the wires on the bulb as if installing an indicator. That should slow the blink rate. If that works then a resistor installed across the two wires for the indicator should sort the blink rate.

  8. Can I do this with the old indicator perhaps?

  9. Should the resistor not be connected in series ?

    • Agree Agree x 1
  10. They need to be connected in parallel. A resistor in series will cause a voltage drop. If connected in parallel the resistor will increase the amps on the circuit to those comparable to a filament bulb. The flashes will reduce to near normal.

  11. I connected a P21/12V/5W bulb in parallel to the front LH LED indicator. Still fast flashing, with or without a 10 Ohm resistor connected in parallel. The RH indicators are flashing to a normal rate. I even tried to involve the Motogadget flash relay but no use, obviously.

  12. Can you swap indicators over and see fast flash changes side. If it does, possible faulty LED?

  13. I swapped them before. No change.

  14. Poor earth? Can you identify the supply side to the indicator? Then run a good earth wire from the other side.
