I always wondered why he disappeared from the racing scene but I guess a couple of years in jail puts a halt to it. In 1998, Garriga was arrested and charged with drug trafficking and possessing illegal weapons. When the case came to trial, he was given a two-year sentence. Court-obtained medical records showed that he had been regularly taking drugs during his motorcycle racing career.[5][6]
