Any one had this error message before? What could it be? Can it be fixed without going into the shop? Is it expensive? The error has been intermittent for a few weeks now, as every time I switched off & restarted my bike it was OK until last weekend when it can on & didn't go away:frown:
I needed a new suspension ecu. Was fine when you switched on, but any sort of mode change brought the fault on again.
+1 - new suspension ECU on mine, all under warranty. It's a pretty common fault. About £800 I believe?
Mine is a 2010 model so out of warranty but with only 8k miles on it a little p####d such an expensive part would go with any Ducati model given mileage and as it seems to be a common fault! So am I understanding this correctly this part is the same as the new plug in that Ohlins have just brought out for £270 ish & give you the closest thing to skyhook on older models? were can i get it?
Is this what I need? OHLINS ELECTRONIC SUSPENSION UPGRADE DUCATI MULTISTRADA MTS ACTIVE SKYHOOK 1200 | eBay Cheers
It depends on the exact error code, It could be the actual servo (maybe) the ecu fault gives a different error to the preload so I think yours is a mechanical error, here is the excerpt from the service manual DDS: Suspension preloader adjuster diagnosis -> Calibration (preload actuator positioning error). Dashboard: the error “DES Pre-load” (rear suspension pre-load) is shown on the service display. The EOBD warning light also activates - No spring preload actuator positions are memorised. This occurs when the motorcycle is switched on with a completely new control unit. - Perform a suspension reset (KEY OFF -> disconnect battery cables –> KEY ON). The spring preload is set to maximum, the error is cancelled and then the spring preload is set to its minimum value. - Contact Ducati if the fault persists.
DES Preload Errors - just had new shock and all the trimmings plus ECU fitted yesterday! Yes but I'd be cautious of buying that one (at full retail price)............I can't help myself! - message to vendor:
Was this with the OEM SCU ? I have the Mechatronic SCU fitted and am experiencing a similar problem. Bike showed the DES Pre Load error for the first time in February. Went away and has just reappeared when I went from Urban to Touring on the go. Oddly although the bike handles fine, I'd say there is no rear pre load at all because it's awfully spongy. The little motor that you hear when you change mode doesn't last very long either so I'm torn between going back to the OEM SCU which I'd hate or changing the whole rear suspension unit over as I have a fairly new used spare unit. Decisions, decisions. Andy
