Engine light just come on on my multi Strada, the annual service light is on, will this cause the engine light to come on? Bike runs fine ( not run it far, just a mile it so to it's garage),
The engine light can just mean an error exists; just as likely a faulty sensor or wiring than a sensor getting a legitimate erroneous warning. Aside from the service light, which wouldn't cause the engine light on its own, are there any other symptoms such a poor running? If you can find someone local with an OBDStar unit then you'll get a more definitive answer, also they can reset your service light for you if you wish. Alternatively, especially if you're getting a dealer to do the service, get the error codes read by a dealer.
Ta,thought as much, a friend out here suggested that a OBD2 reader would work with an adapter, is that true or am I better getting an OBDstar? I've a number of Ducatis so it may be worthwhile in the long run
If there's not someone friendly nearby with one, an OBDStar is a useful tool. Especially if you have, or friends have, other Ducatis. Of limited use, if at all, with older models though. Depends what's in your garage. There are tempting options with phone based readers that work in conjunction with a Bluetooth OBD module. Beware that most of these require an annual subscription, whereas the OBDStar just requires a sub for firmware updates and will continue to work just fine without renewal. Also, similarly, isn't tied to the VIN so works with as many Ducatis as you can plug it into. It won't do everything that the franchised dealer can do, such as bike firmware updates, but not far off. I have one and it's added great convenience, reset service lights, pinpointed problems, activated OEM accessories and been used on other forum members bikes.
