Hi folks, I have purchased a 2018 Multistrada 1260 base model with 12,000 miles on the clock. Full Ducati service history. The issue I am having is a well documented one. When I slow to a stop using the front brake, the brake force varies quite drastically to the degree the forks compress and extend repeatedly, it makes coming to a stop more difficult than it should be especially when turning at the same time. I’ve had multistrada’s before that have suffered with this issue but this is the worst by far. I’ve put the bike up on stands and checked the discs are true, the left seems bang on, the right may have a tiny amount of out. I don’t have a dial test indicator to properly test accuracy. I’ve freed up the bobbins, scotchbrited the discs, and ridden at high speed and nailed the brakes repeatedly. The brakes perform well at higher speeds and there is no pulsing at the lever, just on off braking when slowing from 15mph to a stop. Nothing I’ve done has stopped the issue, the issue has varied at times but not disappeared and is starting to piss me off. Any ideas welcomed. Thanks in advance. Steve
Hi Steve. It does indeed 'sound' like you're describing a disc or pair of discs with sufficient run out to pulse the hydraulics when you're braking. If it were me, I'd take one disc off, turn it 90 degrees and remount it then try the brakes again. Or, I'd look at undoing the caliper and wheel spindle clamp bolts and front spindle nut and then following the explicit procedure for re-tightening in the Workshop Manual. It does make a difference to how the discs are centralised in each caliper. You could buy a DTI and measure the run out properly as well. Try that Steve.
