Guys, I have confused myself silly reading the handbook. I have a 2015 1200 DVT Multistrada that has done the grand total of 5 miles in the last year and less than 1000 miles since its last dealer service two and a bit years ago. It's now on 13800 miles. The belts and big desmo etc were done 2.5K miles ago. Honestly, I am only keeping the service book up to date, the bike is fine and oil is as clean as when it went in. Its only box ticking. For what it costs, I am happy to do that My question is - what do I book the bike in for? Is it an annual service - or an oil service? Are they even different things ? Thanks for any informed help
Annual inspection and oil service are 2 different things. You can have the annual inspection without the oil service. I question why you’re having it done with only 1000 miles since its last service. If you were to put it up for sale then by all means have an oil service and annual inspection done but if you’re not using it I’d just leave it. The only thing I’d be wary of is the belts with it sitting unused, but if you start it and run it frequently even if it doesn’t leave the garage well….. they should be ok. Oh, and brake fluid, that should be changed every 2-3 years, but again, if you’re not using it why refresh it until you want to use or sell it. However, at the end of the day it’s your bike, your money, your choice.
Yes, it's purely for the potential resale value or otherwise really. Do you happen to know what's done on an annual service other than or in addition to oil and brake fluid maybe ?
Annual service is normally a check over of the bike, Brakes, pads, etc, chain and sprockets wear / adjust, steering cables etc for any wear or frayed pipes etc, fluid levels and so on . All the things that any owner could do themselves if they wanted to do so, some don't! The only thing the dealer would / should have to do is to plug the bike into the Ducati system for any fault codes and any software updates that may be needed,. Oh and they stamp the book!
Here's the Ducati page you need... https://www.ducati.com/gb/en/servic...=MT&model=MT|MS1|MS1200&year=MT|MS1|MS1200|15
Brill - thanks guys. I can do the work myself without issue and I know it does not need doing, its just a box ticker (well service book ticker) thats all. I will get it booked in somewhere, a waste of money perhaps but que sera
