So, after a few weeks of waiting, I picked up my new 1299 today from P&H in Crawley. Absolutely love it, and the service from Marcus and the team at P&H was great as well! I've not ridden a Ducati before, not even a test ride. I bought it based on reviews, feedback from other riders and professional reviews and other stuff that I personally look for in a bike. I'm not a big guy (only 5'7) but I'm amazed how much room there is on the bike when riding, it's not at all cramped! It's actually even more spacious than a previous (2005) ZX10R, which had loads of room (for a shorty like me) and was really comfy on long distance road trips. Gearbox is great and the brakes feel really strong! When everything is bedded in, I'm sure it will be even more impressive! As it was my first time on the bike, P&H recommended I start off in wet mode and work my way up in due course, I'm fine with that as I can't push the bike till the running in period is completed anyway, so happy to trundle round racking up the miles just getting used to things. I also need to break in my new gloves as although they're Kangaroo, I'm lacking some feel on the throttle and controls, so will be good to get those broken in too. So a brief 30 mile ride home and she's now tucked up in the garage awaiting another nice sunny day so we can start to get through that 600 mile running in period. I've put down a new floor so it was good to see it being put to use! (The walls of the garage are going to soon be covered with some new insulation and boarding to keep it warmer during the winter, so don't judge me on the photos below!) Mods on the bike ... Only an Evotech lower radiator guard, front fork sliders and Evotech tail tidy. I have a few extra things planned, such as getting the suspension set up for my weight when the first service is done, and maybe an Akrapovic at the same time depending on how I get on with the standard exhaust, which is plenty loud enough. I also opted for the full transparent paint protection option, which you wouldn't even know is on there unless it was pointed out. Expensive option, but it will look after the paintwork very well and should massively reduce chips, scratches and general markings. A few pics below, but it's a 1299, and you'll all have seen plenty of them, but here she is ...
I saw your bike on Sunday in P&H. I got my suspension set up done at the 600 miles service so by then I'd gotten to know the bike. Enjoy and welcome to 1299 ownership, you'll love it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Thanks guys I believe P&H are about to remove their 1299 demonstrator as they've no new ones left! ...
Nice bike! I've been admiring ZX10Rs recently... there's an '08 model one parked up close by which I see quite regularly.
Lovely bike. I got mine from Marcus at P&H as well and have the Evotech tail tidy, rad guard, paint protection - all worth having in my opinion. I can say the after sales service has been very good from PH as well, so I am sure they will look after you. Enjoy!
Bought the same flavour as you just under 12 months ago, just over 10,000 (eventful) miles now. Congrats & enjoy.
6th Duke from P&H, like all places they've had the odd hiccup but overall I wouldn't go elsewhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Congrats. May I ask who you got to do the paint protection, I'm having terrible problems getting mine done but that's becasue I don't want to ride it or hire a van to take it to their premises!! Just don't want to risk any damage.
10,000 miles? Blimey I've only done 3,000, you put me to shame! Off to France for a weekend soon, then South of France in June with the lads, so,that will put a few more on the clock. Someone's got to do it!
@ResB1299 , try Russell @ Invisible Patterns . Not sure he covers North Yorkshire but he did a collection & delivery to Cheshire for me. Also did a brilliant job on the application. A keen biker & seems to know his stuff. Invisible Patterns - 3M Authorised Autocare Centre Warrington, North West, UK .
I got the paint shield done in PH before picking it up. I am sure they would help you sort it if you asked them. I would think you need a good environment to fix it properly Just wrote that without thinking about where you are in the U.K. - doh!
@Rosso - Thanks for that. I've tried Invisible patterns but they are too busy to come to mine even with a cash incentive. They could squeeze me in if I get the bike to them. That's fair enough I guess as they are running a business. Got a feeling my bike is going to become a museum piece as it just isn't going to be ridden without the film on. @AndyF - Funny thing is I know Tom at Paintshield very well but they specialise in cars. He has already said he'll sort me out and do a one off but I have to get the bike to them. Great of him to offer but one off's cost!! (Cheers Tom if you're reading this).
Nice bike , nice floor ! But please go to the almax security chains website and watch the you tube videos, called the wall of shame, after you seen that you will buy a new chain to protect your pride and joy, have fun!
Hi Very nice bike! How much does the paint protection cost - I have a new Multi on order. Can I suggest - you get a decent chain and lock and do the back wheel not front? Almax 4 or Protector 19mm and Abloy 362 padlock.
I think mine was about £100 for the front of the bike. Not sure why it says my post was edited by a moderator?
