This thread is for those of us who may once have owned/overhauled cars they loved before or in conjunction with getting into bikes. I have searched for a thread like this but came up with nothing. Apologies if it is a duplicate. I was into cars until I was 23 when a mate eventually persuaded me to try his Kawa GT750 - after that cars were just transport. But prior I loved Holden HQ Monaros (1971-74). My first I did minor work on and the second was a ground up overhaul journey. Here is a photo of the first, a 1974 HQ GTS Monaro 5.0L V8. Feast thou eyes:
So to the second car, a run down 1971 HQ GTS Monaro Coupe. This was a two year project, most of which the car was off the road so I leased an old red Kingswood which an old lady one day ploughed into after ignoring a stop sign. I had to cycle for a while until the beast was ready:
I was into my hot hatches back in the late '90's . My fav i had was a pug 205 gti . I put different wheels on it, grill, side skirts etc etc . Was in the peugeot sport club and went to several meetings over the years . Sold it to do a direct access course and buy my first bike which was a Ducati 600SS .
had an hx ute with a 350 chevy in it back in the day... i was 19 and used to sling my kx 125 on the back.. it was the ultimate race package back then.. chicks dug it!!! had a pretty tidy xc falcon ute for a while as well..
Bikes started at 16 with an RD50... cars came after, but were mostly Minis / Beetles / Campers / Porsches... the odd Skoda and Lancia thrown in. Cars are ultimately quite space-hungry though, you can pack more bikes in and the kind of cars I like are now sadly far from readily affordable. I gave £1400 for my '69 Mini Cooper, about the same for my '67 Beetle and my first Porsche stood me at £250 (an '81 924 Turbo)... I thought I was doing alright when I sold my last Beetle in 2014 for £8,500, a '53 oval that would now command about £15k. D'oh.
Indeed! For the fairly short time I went road racing I looked around for a one tonner to show off the bike but ended up with a daggy but much more practical old van.
From this..... To this...... Always loved golfs, had pretty much all marks over the years, these have been my faves!
never got the euro car thing... had several cortinas but they were just pretty much paddock cars,, worth a few bob now though,, used to steal my mums vauxhall chevette and take it gravel roading.. great rally car
My first hot hatch and second car after my 1986 1.6 Ford Escort. I present to you the lesser rusted Uno Turbo. It soon blossomed into the fully rusted Uno Turbo and eventually shat it’s turbo out of the scorpion stainless system. Possibly something I’d encouraged by increasing the boot somewhat..... It ended up lowered and with mark 2 alloys on along with a couple of other bits and bobs.
