On my last track day I noticed a couple of times the needles on my rev counter and temperature gauge were swinging about quite wildly. I think it was happening on the overrun but I can't be sure. What can cause this? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Had a similar issue with my temperature gauge, turned out to be the plug working loose with a tight wiring loom. I know the pins in the rev counter are very fragile, too easy to bend and break. Andy
My KTM SMT did something similar once. The dash lights went out and the rev counter needle kept swinging from zero round to maximum and back again like a windscreen wiper. Pulled over and lifted the seat to investigate and the positive battery lead had come off. Reattached it temporarily with a nut and bolt from the bodywork and everything went back to normal. Fixed it properly when I got home with some thread lock and had no trouble since. I was worried it may have done something to the ECU but all was well.
Thanks Gents. I will have the nose fairing off soon and check the connections. Need to get to the bottom of the fuel light always being on too and it's not the fuel sender, I replaced that already.
Bad earth. Had the same with my 748 when fitting an optimate lead and didn't tighten the earth enough.
The socket inside the rev counter can break away from the pcb its attatched to. I cut the casing half way up to expose and resolder mine. If the plug feels loose when clicked home that could be the problem.
