1200 S Neutral And Rear Sprocket

  1. Hi. I absolutely love my new-to-me 1200s, but there are two things I'm curious about. First is the difficulty of selecting neutral when the engine is running. Is there a definite cause for this or, more importantly, fix? The other thing is the gearing. I'm finding myself in third gear most of the time - which is not a problem as such, but what do people think of going up to a 42 or 43 tooth rear sprocket? Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice.

  2. My 2010 796 (new to me) is the same. Neutral is like finding an honest politician.

  3. Make sure your chain is at the correct tension, this can effect how easy it is to get into neutral. I find the gearing on mine fine.

  6. I’m sure you know this but for anyone else new to riding who searches and cones across the thread.
    1) knock it into neutral a second before you stop whilst still moving
    2) if you are stationary rock it back and forward as you try to find neutral
Two simple tips to help with elusive neutrals

  7. Ah, cool. I've been using method 1 which works most of the time, but method 2 sounds very useful. Thanks.

  9. Have 1200r, only find neutral when engine is switched off, or when I’ve got the oil (Motul 7100) level just right and chain tension is spot on. Otherwise forget it :upyeah:

  10. Thanks for that. I've adjusted the chain today, so I'll see how that goes tomorrow.
