After 3 years of trackday using my street bikes (first Yamaha SZR660, then Ducati 900SS) I was offered a 916 trackbike bargain and I was quick to accept. The bike was sorry looking in at least 5 colours (incl. unpainted fairing and seat) and it had been crashed more than once but the engine was running perfectly and the bike was mechanically fine and already built for trackdays. I got it just before new year and spent some time taking it apart to paint the whole bike black. It was a simple DIY paint job but with some rubbing the paint was okay (for racing at least). While the thing was apart I checked the valves and changed the belts, oil and filter too. After servicing my 900SS I spent some time cursing at all those layers of stuff to remove every time you need access to anything! Next friday it will get the very first trackday (Knutstorp Sweden, a hugely exiting little track with a lot of curves and height changes too) and I have already ordered the next 5 days. I can feel the need for getting a bigger car too... Jim
