New 959 Owner With Questions

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Flashman, Oct 30, 2020.

  1. Good evening everybody,
I have recently purchased a 2017 Panigale 959 and have joined this forum to seek your expert guidance with all things Panigale :)

I have already treated my bike to a number of trinkets such as a comfort seat, Evotech radiator guards, Evotech tail tidy, Evotech spindle bobbins, Evotech paddock stand bobbins, Dynamic LED Indicator set, White lights and a gel tank protector.

What I'd be grateful for is advice as to the suspension settings (front & rear) for general road use for a 90kg rider (inc leathers!). I rarely do track days other than regular trips over the mountain TT course during race week breaks.

Secondly, I have noticed the heat emanating from under the seat when riding at slow speed/in traffic. I have fitted heat reflective tape under the seat and seen the heat reflective product available from the US for the fairings. At present it isn't a problem for me since it has been rather chilly of late and the heat has been welcome. However, I can imagine it may be an issue in the summer months so is there a cheap fix/recommendation on how to reduce this heat?

Apologies for the long first post. I am hopeful that I will be able to get my bike's suspension sorted shortly. I look forward to contributing to this forum in the future. Thank you :)

  2. Welcome.

Regarding the HBS (hot bum syndrome) this is an unfortunate side affect of the Panigale. They all do that sir. In reality it’s only ever a problem if you’re riding slowly through town on a blisteringly hot day. When you’re on the move then it’s not a problem.

As far as suspension goes I’m sure there’ll be someone along shortly who knows what they are talking about that can help. But failing that take it along to a suspension specialist like Kais and get it sorted. It’ll be the best £40 - £50 you’ll spend on it :)

  3. Hello and welcome. I bought my 959 about 4 months ago. I had read all the threads about people complaining about the heat but tbh, I can’t say it really bothers me that much. I’d wait until it gets warmer then you can make your own judgement...
As El Toro said, you have Kais at a stone’s throw from North Wales. They’d sort the suspension for you.

  4. Thank you both for your informative replies. I shall certainly give Kais a call once this lockdown is relaxed. Looking forward to getting some miles in now :)

  6. It’s not just the Pani’s either. Try riding a 1098 slowly thru town for more than a few minutes. Swapped bikes with a zzugly 14 rider once on the way back from Bourton, chose the scenic route back. He stopped the ride at one point because he thought something was very wrong with the exhaust under the seat :joy:

  7. I owned a 998 many years ago but never had any heat issues, only a killer heavy clutch!

  8. Thanks for the welcome. Here are some photos of my new steed on Day One of ownership...... IMG_8983 2.jpg IMG_8984 2.jpg IMG_8985 2.jpg IMG_8986 2.jpg

  9. Hello :upyeah:.

  10. Very nice, no Pani should have a rear seat though!

  11. Cheers Symon. A seat cowl is on my list! Are there any decent alternatives to the OEM version?
