New Air Cleaners Necessary For 848evo, Or Just Clean With Airline?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by CRYSTALJOHN, Jul 9, 2017.

  1. I'm just about to look at my 848 Evo's air cleaners, 2013 model 11.5kmiles, is it recommended to replace with new filters, or can they be cleaned out with an airline. I've not seen them yet so don't know what make are fitted, the bike has had Termis and the appropriate ecu fitted, so possibly they have non standard filters fitted. Any advice much appreciated.

  2. First advice: there is only one air filter element.

I believe the standard one is paper and not suitable for cleaning.
You can get a K&N or Pipercross reusable one either normal or race type.

That is the advice from your local airline engineer.

  3. Thanks Richard

I wrongly assumed there were 2 like the 749.
Did an oil change last night, enthused by our Clutch lesson.
Spent ages looking for the drain plug forgetting it wasn't my 749, couldn't work out where the hell it was, found the bugger eventually but someone had previously tightened the 5mm drain bolt to a 1000Nm so had a bit of a swear.

  4. Crikey, that's tight!!

Top tip for airfilter...you only need to take one air tube off and the filter can be removed from that side.

  5. My 848 had a termi air filter and ECU fitted, but the last owner had removed the cans to sell them. Never took it out so don't know what the difference was.

  6. Make my day mate, and tell me which side ?

  7. C'mon punk....make MY day!

    Doesn't matter which side!

Too hot to get gimped up today!

  9. Agree, far too hot-only mad dogs. Might go for an evening session around 8:30 though.
Was wondering if I could change filter when I have rhs fairing panel off when I check my belt tension. Do I have to remove tank?

  10. No need to remove tank...unless you like self flaggelation.

  12. £53 for a K&N. Running a Ducati is an expensive business!
