New heated Jacket : Exo StormChaser

  1. I bike 3hr commutes all through the year and have had a keis heated body warmer which I managed to break and to be honest didn't keep me as warm as id like. I decided to through caution and money to the wind and buy the Exo StormChaser. 1st thing i did was phone the Company to find out about returns policy etc. I was so impressed with the service that evening (thursday) I ordered the jacket and controller. It arrived on Saturday as I requested via special delivery which was fantastic service.

    1 x EXO² Heat Controller (01-023-09) = £39.99
    1 x 01-020MC StormChaser Heat-Surround Jacket (01-020MC) = £259.99

Initial thoughts were this is a quality bit of kit from the controller through the jacket (will upload pics) . I mounted the controller on my satnav bracket which worked well. I left bristol in 10 degrees this evening and by leigh delemare services had turned it off as i was toasty warm. i remains comfy until reading when turned on again only running No 3 setting out of 9. I will post pics and updates as the weather gets cold but so far service , and item are fantastic and given how much I pay for a gore text shell I don't think unreasonable.

    More to follow
    Regards
    Chris
P.S I have no connection to Company or any axe to grind with Keis products.

  2. Whilst working in the US a few years ago I treated myself to a Gerbings jacket, gloves & dual controller, it's still all working great and keeps me hmmmm toasty. From the very 1st time i'd used it I could only wonder why i'd waited so long, the only thing i came up with was it being an age/macho thing. Ok, so I'm old girly tart but i'm warm

  3. I bought an exo for me and the little woman for our trip to Northern Italy in may of this year, just in case it got chilly like.
As it turns out we were watching the giro in the Dolomites in the coldest late may weather they'd had there for 20 years. The Exo jackets saved us from getting seriously into trouble trying to go over a pass that turned out to be snowed in.
Probably the best money i have ever spent in relation to this motorcycle riding lark in 30 plus years.

  4. What I am finding is so far the way it seals in the heat under by furygan jacket is negating the need for turning the heating on. Ive just removed the winter liner from the furygan just not needed at these temps. So far so good. The other best buy for me has been daytona travel star gtx great boots , warm in winter not too warm in summer and totally dry

  5. To all you guys that have got heated jackets / vests, have you encountered any issues wearing such garments under Goretex outer clothing ?? Reason I ask is that I,ve heard that that having the garments on whilst wearing Goretex 'confuses' the Goretex membrane in effect, as it kind of needs to work in reverse as such, and that it reduces the breath ability of the suit and can cause sweating.

Put a hold on me purchasing such a garment to be honest, as all my outer kit is Goretex. Anyone encountered such an issue ??

    cheers. Nick

  6. Ive not had any issues with it. I am not convinced that unless you have a wicking base layer, mid layer and top layer the goretex is any more than a gimic but maybe I'm just a little sceptical. I know when I'm riding my bike i have so much that stops it like armour , quilted jacket it isn't really an issue.

so far I've found the jacket great no issues with sweating

    Cheers

  7. Thanks Chris. Useful to know. Another dealer told me today that only issue they know of is when using Goretex gloves with heated grips.... because Goretex (or any alternative breathable material) is designed to work when the temp on the 'inside' is warmer than the outside, thus allowing the breathability of the fabric to work. If the temp on the outside (i.e.. from heated grips) is greater on the outside than the inside, then the fabric goes into reverse in effect and will absorb moisture.

If that true, then it would make sense that you have encountered no problems with yr jacket. Any road up, thanks for the info on the Exo. Def on my list now !!

    Cheers Nick

  8. I have Goretex (or Daineses' version of it if its different) in my outer jacket and have not noticed any such issues.

Like i said its the best bit of clothing i have bought in thirty years.
