New Helmet

  1. I'm looking at the AGV K6 S, Carbon fibre, lightweight.
    Looks like decent value.
    Has anybody got one?

  2. Just checked out AGV website
Good looking lid that appears to tick all the boxes.

  3. Shopping for a new helmet in December I was told by two shops that the quality of AGV helmets (aside from their top models at >£1000) was nowhere near that of Shoei, Arai and HJC. I ended up buying an HJC rpha-70 carbon and I'm really happy with it. If you didn't want the internal sun visor then the rpha-11 would be a top choice IMO. Having said all that if you've tried the AGV in person and are happy with the quality then go for it.
Just wanted to add I used to be a Shoei fanboy but the HJC just seems to be better value nowadays.

  4. Thanks, I've probably had most makes over the years, my last two have been AGV, they seem to fit me well.
I'll have to try one on first.

  5. Whichever brand fits you best, but it must be made of carbon.

  6. I wore AGV helmets for about ten years of riding, I had several different models including 3 Rossi Replica helmets. I never had an issue with quality and always found them light and comfortable. I changed to Shoei about 6 years ago and have stayed with them since, there is definitely a marked difference in quality, comfort and noise reduction and obviously reflected in the price.

  7. I'm not entirely sure that HJC are up there with Arai and Shoei. Friends who have owned them have all had issues with them which has put me off buying one.

  8. I admit I was sceptical about HJC at first having had Shoei mostly (and last lid was a Shark carbon) but I am really impressed with the quality of the HJC I bought. Only niggle I have is the d-buckle fastening - I really prefer the micro-ratchet fastening on the Shark and the last couple of Shoeis but that's the only downside I've discovered. I should also say that we bought my wife an HJC Carbon about 10 years ago and that was top notch as well.

  9. I have got 2 of them - and a Shoei NXR2 and an Arai RX7V !

The K6 is excellent - visor mechanism is solid and works best of all my lids. The central tab for opening is much easier to find and operate than my new Shoei.

The K6 fit for me is - generous. Not big, but somehow feels like my head is properly inside a helmet, rather than bits still exposed. Difficult to explain.

No issues with them at all.

  10. I've managed to pick one up for £360 which I thought was good.
I have the K5 but looking forwards to a lightweight version.

  11. To me the K6 is everything a modern helmet should be. Lightweight yet strong. The visor close/open tab is at the front in the middle of the rather than to the side. This makes it easier to reach to open and close with either hand. It probably makes it quieter as well.

The venting is very good - the visor can be opened a fraction in slow moving traffic to keep from misting. The visor is super wide for distortion free peripheral vision.

It has a very good range of tolerance of head position for noise.

    Excellent helmet. Good quality.

I had the red one when I got the Ducati Monster, then the Johan Mir one when I got my Suzuki. Now got a KTM now so got a lovely Shoei in orange !!

I hope you will be pleased with it.........

  12. I've got the K5 now and apart from a recent whistle it's been great, I thought a new lighter helmet was a good idea, because I'm worth it?

  13. I see the ratchet/clip type of fastening one of those things that wasn’t required as it’s not as good as the infinitely adjustable double ‘d’. I have both but the Arai with its d fastening is my first choice every time. I’d be taking it out today, but I cannot find the clear visor, obviously put somewhere safe.

  14. You need another Arai ! one with the clear visor on it and the other with the light smoke tinted visor on it - mostly saves the faff of changing visors over....

  15. I have no problem swapping the visor over occasionally, I just can’t find the damned thing. The only reason I bought a modular helmet was for blood biking, the ones that fit me all had the ratchet strap.

  17. I’m no longer an active rider, but I’m still involved.

  18. I'm also looking for a new lid. I loved my Schuberth and felt it did a very good job when I went down the road, but they all seem to have internal sun visors now, which I'm not keen on - I'd rather just have a dark visor and no internals. But looking around across the brands those internal sun visors seem difficult to escape now. Am I right to assume that they're not removable? Do most people now just have and get on with them? Cheers for any ruminations.

  19. The more race styled (rather than sport/touring) lids don't have internal visors. There are plenty of those to choose from e.g. HJS RPHA-11. And none of the Arais have internal visors

  20. Personally, I wouldn't be without one, I find them very easy to use and of course you have the option of having it up or down, I find them particularly useful this time of year when the sun is low or you get a break in the clouds. Also as a glasses wearer I wouldn't be wearing sun glasses in the summer, so again they're ideal for that.
