New Sprocket and Chain offer from Ducati?

  1. Chaps,

I see a lot of chat on the US and international forums about Ducati now offering to swap the rear sprocket for a 41t, and provide a new chain (needs longer chain) - at a discounted price - apparently as the R model has now proven that the new mapping and the larger sprocket put the drive back down the rev range where it is needed.

Anyone else heard this yet? I haven't been on mine in months as it is up at JHP, so haven't tried the upmap yet either, but will soon.

  2. Yep. Heard about it at the factory week or so ago. Don't know the costs yet though. Think there's a tweak to the mapping as well to make the most of the gearing changes to.

  3. PMSL, so Ducati have just worked out that mid range punch and torque are what makes a great Ducati road superbike that sells, not a rev it's nuts off twitchier than a twitchy thing race bike on the road? Next thing is you'll be telling me the pope's resigned!

  4. i'd be keen to hear about the costs of this, im also interested in looking at the front sprocket only option.

  5. Was at local dealers yesterday they just got 41T sprocket and chain in for customer and said it was about £160 think that includes fitting but not had any mail on this yet for mine

  6. My local dealer just advised the cost for chain and sprocket kit is 150 and 60 fitting, so I'm going with that. A tuning and bsb race team shop today advised that they had had 14t fronts eating into swing arms over time.

  7. Chain and sprocket is about the £150 mark. Fitting is down to dealer I guess and their labour rates

  8. while you're at it : have the lighter flywheel installed. The combo (41T + map + Flywheel) will put you ever so close to R perfomance for no money... it is very noticable: instant pick up everywhere above 4.5k

  9. Surely a significantly lighter flywheel will increase vibration at idle shortening the life of the engine especially without the lighter Ti rods of the R. Perhaps the idle speed of the R is higher than the base/S/Tri models?

  10. do you not also start to get issues with stalling and upset of the EBC when changing the flywheel? when doing that on cars stalling and poor idle always became a bit of an issue

  11. Indeed, imassively lightened flywheels are a well known problem with many engines and remember that Ducs are especially sensitive at idle given the uneven power strokes. I think this is one issue where the manufacturer knows best after their R and D

    hope this helps

  12. OK so I took the plunge on this, just picked my bike up after having the 14t kit fitted. I found the bike to be a lot easier to ride in traffic and could not sit in 2nd at 30mph without all the hunting which makes the bike much move livable in London! I only rode the bike for a short 20min ride, but didn't personally feel much of a "seat of the pant" improvement in power delivery. Had I have done the upgrade for this reason I may have been a bit disappointed, but I guess more riding will tell for sure. Hope this is helpful for those considering this upgrade.
