New To The Forum (996 Owner)

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by G_Man, Jun 5, 2019.

  1. HI y'all

I'm new to the forum and was told to introduce myself here...

I've had Ducatis since 2010 - first a 900SS...but I had to crash that one in 2013. I bought this beautiful 996 in 2013 - I've not crashed that thus far and hope to sell before I do.

Don't get out that much, maybe 1000 miles a year - Based in South Oxfordshire, UK.

I'm looking for new forks for my 996 (showa). Once that's sorted (and I'm a paid up member of this forum) the bike is going on the market.

  5. Loving the retro 2014 tax disc, welcome

  6. Welcome G, nice, clean looking bike.
Ohlins rear - an aftermarket add-on or is your 996 'more' than a regular 996?
There's plenty on here looking for a good clean 996 you should have no problem selling :upyeah:
    Enjoy the Forum.

  7. Beautiful :)

Is there a bin in those pics

    Welcome into our mad house

  8. Welcome, looks a tidy bike, what's wrong with your forks?
    Steve

  9. There is an internal problem with the forks which was picked up at a main dealer service when they pulled them out - the issue is only visible when you take them off and pull the legs out. Both legs need to be replaced.

Ohlins rear was an upgrade, still have the original. Still have the original pipes too.

10k miles on the machine, excellent history. It got to be the cleanest 996 out there!

I’ve got a 6 month old baby and I think I’m done with drivers on phones scaring the living daylights out of me when riding. Switching to the track.

  10. Are the forks not repairable? What's the internal issue. If you buy replacements I'd be interested in taking those ones off you, see if I can't fix them up.

  11. That's why I asked, I could make use of them also.

  12. From the interest I sense that good replacements are indeed hard to come by...!

I sent pictures and emails out to a couple of specialists to see if they can be refurbed. Will post here when I know their fate!

    Any recommendations for refurb/repair?

  16. CR, I did indeed, £340 for NOS TiN 748S forks (Same as 996) from an Italian ebay site called Piricambi. The intent is to get the seals and bushes kit for the old ones and give them a service to keep as spares. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/piricambi10/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

A brief check on site shows NOS rear Showa shocks for the 999 are still available at £140 and a set of new 749/999 forks for £362
