Hi, I have been working on the Mrs monster 1200 (not s or r) and am going to replace the tyres ahead of the mot, there is some wear left in them but she has spent the year getting over rotator cuff surgery and I thought it would be a good boost to her confidence having new tyres fitted. Pirelli Diablo III’s have previously been fitted and these have been fine. I was going to replace with the same but looking around for prices I see this tyre has been superseded by the Diablo IV. I can still get III’s but wondered if the IV might be superior? Does anyone have any experience they can share of going from Diablo three’s to four’s - or any other recommendations for that matter? Thanks
My thinking is that there may well be an improvement but it's an improvement on a tyre that already works well so as long as they haven't been sat on a shelf for years I would save the sheckles and go with the 3's.
I hope the IVs are an improvement. I have no option but Diablo Rosso IIIs on my Diavel because of the 240 rear. I'm very happy with the IIIs. I only get about 3000 miles from them but it's a dry weather fun bike and they're perfect for that. I wouldn't want to sacrifice performance for a few extra miles of life or wet grip I don't need.
@Stupidomoto, Michelin Pilot Power 6 and the new budget King Tyre, K97 are options for the Diavel. Andy
@firecat0_0, have a look through this, https://tyre24.pirelli.com/moto/assets/pirelli/pdf/global/TDB/PIRELLI_TDB_2025_HR.pdf for where your choices cross over. Dunlop, here, https://www.dunlopmotorcycletires.com/tires-old/. Metzeler here, https://assets24.metzeler.com/assets/metzeler/images/metzeler-tdb-2025-hr.pdf. Similar info for Michelin and Continental is out there but a little harder to drill down on. Andy
I run them on a multi, I don’t track the bike but I’m sure they would be a good choice dependant on your expectations?
I use Michelin power 5 s on my 1200R ,brilliant tyre ,very stable ,quick turn in ,surplus of grip and said to be a very good track day tyre ,
I had power 6 on my 1200r until I recently changed them to S23s. The Michelins lasted nearly 6000 miles last year (can’t say exactly as I punctured the first rear in Feb/mar so had to change it) and there was still life in the front but I just fancied a change. All I can say is the tyres were better than me
Hiya, I'm a bit late to this. The Rosso 4 is a different tyre from the 3. It's much better from cold and in mixed conditions. There's also a revised profile and they've got more outright grip when hot. Both good tyres but if you're riding on the sportier side, I'd suggest the Rosso 4s over the 3s as I think you'll notice the difference. I have a Monster 1200R and use the Rosso 4 Corsas as that bike is mainly for sporty rides and trackdays.
Should be getting the tyres fitted today, based on feedback I am going to go for rosso 4’s. Thanks everyone for the input.
Andrew at GTC chilworth fitted some Rosso 4’s for me, great service and knowledgable - highly recommended. Too bloody cold to try them out but at least this set were made several weeks ago unlike the old ones they replace which were going on four years old at the time they were fitted. A bit more confidence inspiring. I will in future check the age of tyres before they are fitted but hopefully we will ride enough next season to be able to replace them fairly promptly. Thanks everyone who commented. I have just ordered a portable diesel heater for the garage as it is rather too brisk in there to refit the wheels!
I wanted to try the Rosso 4s last year on my Diavel. Couldn't find a 240 rear in the 4s though so had to stick with 3s. Very happy with them but faster warm-up and more grip is always welcome - not that I've found the 3's lacking as my Diavel is not an all-weather bike. The vast girth of the 240 rear is almost unnoticeable with the R3's. It doesn't feel in any way heavy or slow in the bends and I'd like to keep it that way. If the 4's are an even sharper profile that can only be a good thing. Quality miles are more important to me than high miles. I will look out for the 4's again this year when I need another set in the spring.
