New Windscreen

  1. Hey guys

Is this repairable or a new windscreen? Slightly bigger than a 5p in line of drivers sight.

Also, where is best for a new windscreen?

Autowindscreen just came in at £185 if it needs replacing. Whoop.

    Cheers

  2. Sounds like a new windscreen - check your insurance, most have windscreen replacement excess of £50 to £75

  3. Nope, on the wife's which is TPFT.

  4. In the driver's eye-line, almost definitely a new screen...

  5. Worth checking with whoever does your MoT before replacing it?

Although I'd put in a claim for a complete windsreen replacement, if necessary, I have taken against the "repair small cracks for £10 excess" which the insurers tend to offer these days (indeed, the glass people positively encourage you to call them in to stop it getting worse).

Apart from the fact that the repairs I have had done seem to make little difference to the appearance, you can probably buy a kit for the same £10, and then save yourself all the hassle of having to declare the claim for the next 5 years.... yes, even though they usually say it will not change your no-claims discount, they always want to know about trivial claims like this, and in some cases will actually use it as an excuse not to give you no-claims credit for the year in which you had the "repair" done.

  6. MOT information - Windsreen

Not the simplest thing to read, but basically if the damage is more than 10mm diameter and is in the driver's eye-line, then it's an MoT failure and is therefore illegal...
