Newbie questions on servicing 999

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by cjatwell, Mar 29, 2013.

  1. Hi . Im new to ducati ownership and own a 03' 999 .
Just a few questions, as i want to do my own servicing.

    - Can i use semi synthetic 10w 40 , or will 999 want fully synthetic.

    - How do i tell if i have the upgraded ECU, I have the termis , but dont know if ECU was done too. Seems to run
ok but starting and warmup can be a pain. Once she warms up she is ok.

    - Is there a special tool for adjusting the lock screws on each side of the swingarm.

Any other advice , greatly appreciated.

  2. Moved to technical help

  3. Id defo use fully synthetic, as for the ECU just remove it and google the part number that on it

  4. If you can find someone nearby with the kit for Ducatidiag, they will be able to tell you what map you have in the ECU. If not, then it's a twat of a job to get to the ECU and read the labels

  5. Fully synth only ang agree with Chris , getting to the ECU is more hassle than its worth , are u sure its a proper termi or has the previous owner stuck an eBay sticker on it.
regarding the start up warming issue , there is a cold start lever ( u probably know) on the left switchgear. It's normal to need to give the bike a couple of revs then it'll settle down.

  6. The adjusters on the swing arm - I use a pair of Allen keys.

Really easy to change the oil on 999 and fully synth isn't expensive online. You could always get it set up somewhere if you're not happy with how it's running.
