Good evening@all It gets colder and colder in central Europe and the season is over. I want to park my 1200DVT in a car port. With roof but open wall on one side so its just protected against snow, rain a.s.o. But typical ambient air und temperature. Not very good conditions for a battery and i want remove it. Can i expect problems if there is ~5 month no battery installed? Thanks for sharing your experience Best regards, Heimo
Should be fine. I remove the batteries from my garaged bikes in winter but am a bit nervous 1st startup of the year. Cold kills batteries even if on optimate.
Hi Guys -so optimate CAN be used to charge a MTS DVT? I usemy bike all year round so Optimate will help through the winter months?
As long as you've not got li-on battery, optimate will be fine. My bikes have glass matt or old style sealed plate batteries.
A friend has a 2010 MTS1200 that has sat outside with a plastic cover over it every winter from November to March since new. It has never seen an Optimate and is still on the original battery, but he thinks it may need a new one next spring.
I asked TecMate whether I could use my old Optimate 3+ on my DVT and their response was: "Of course you can use the 3+ on your new multistrada, unless the Multistrada is fitted with a Lithium battery from factory. In this case you will need a lithium battery charger. If not, you can place your battery lead onto the lead acid battery, and perfectly use the 3+ on your new Ducati."
Have you thought about a solar-powered trickle charger? No it doesn't have a lithium battery, just the usual heavy brick.
Thanks Tobers & Simon Audi. This has just reminded me (and apologies for hi-jacking this thread).....> Would loose battery terminals cause resetting of Trip 1 &2 and date and time? Last two rides out over the weekend just gone (about 350 miles or so) caused this issue on both days after returning to the bike and starting the engine.Any ideas if battery related??
I used to do that after I got divorced, but the new wifey won't have any of it. My mate used to keep his in the kitchen until one day he fired a 2smoker up whilst it was still in the kitchen and all hell broke lose, the neighbours called the fire brigade after smoke was billowing out the windows, the whole house stunk of Castrol R. We still laugh about it now.
You could always put a bike cover over it and make a light bulb tin heater. 20w should be ample if you seal the cover under the bike.
Interesting JC - can you expand on this - this would still have potential to set tge cover fabric alight?
