Seeing as my trusted black Arai visor (RX7) now looks like its taken a point blank hit from a blunderbus i decided to be a cheap skate and buy a non genuine one from fleabay....big mistake. Apart from the fact that one of the pin locks was missing( probably a new "techflow air ventilation system" or some such shoit), the visor was noticeably thicker than OE..no biggy perhaps, but the fun started when i noticed that the edges of the visor that click into the side pods was not bevelled..An Arai is bevelled down from 3mm to about 1mm, allowing it to locate beneath some tabs on the locking mech thats screwed into the shell).. As a consequence, it pushed the pods upwards and out. Result? snapped side pod tabs...ergo, i cant put a fakking visor on my lid (which was knocking on the door of £700 notes a couple of years ago. My fault for being a cheap skate...a pair of pods from Arai is £30 (more or less the cost of a genuine visor). Lesson for the day: Dont buy cheap shit for a premium lid especially from fleabay. I took it to a local Arai stockist and the bloke tried it on a display lid and it was trying to snap the pods off that too..a quick call to Arai (who have been excellent to me when ive needed them over the last 20 something years..free mouthpieces, servicing etc at the bike races etc)..they obviously wont cover it because its a non gen part. You may be lucky, but for all of you with expensive lids, just bite the bullet, bend over and pay over the the odds for the real thing that will actually work. A few choice words with the seller over the phone, and a heads up that he'd better not 'fkn well piss me about mate' and the item has been returned...freepost. So the bottom line is, if i dont receive a full refund in the next few days i might be having a drive to Leamington Spa.
visors for the older RX7 (corsair) don't fit the new RX7GP (and vice-versa) - did they give you the right one? the cheaper visors tend to scratch/crack easier than genuine too.
el pain in the arse. Mind you, Arai don't exactly help themselves with their massively expensive and surely hugely overpriced helmets and their eye-wateringly overpriced and margin-heavy visors. If they were prepared to charge a reasonable amount, people wouldn't be buying cheap crap on the Dog of Fleas.
True and again, true. Its the correct visor for the corsair (apparently)...but it also happens to be shit.
