Nose Fairing/mirrors Mounting Bracket '94 900 Ss

  1. Bit of a long shot but always struggled to get a good fit of the fairing sides to nose and after having the front off to replace fork tubes (again) I am now rebuilding it and this seems worse.
(Its been apart a while so maybe I'm just more critical..)
The nose fairing seems wider at the mirror mounts than the mounts themselves and dependent on handlebar position closer to the front brake master reservoir (oblong coffin type) than the clutch reservoir. So far though I cant convince myself that the right side is significantly lower than the left!
    Reason for the post..

Does anyone have any dimensions for the nose fairing / mirror mounting frame I could check mine against for differences that might explain the poor fit? (Presume the same for 750 and 600 versions)
Also what distance under the top yoke do you set the bars on the fork legs?

  2. Whereabouts are you, Pete? There may be someone locally that has one that you could compare/measure

  3. I restored an SS that had clearly been dropped at some point, and the upper mirror/fairing arm was off on one side, you couldn't really tell when mounted as the fairing plastics absorbed the discrepancy, but when the fairing support was placed on the ground and measured point to point it was miles off. Sounds like a similar issue.

  4. I'm in Bath, Somerset. So far I have done some measurements with it fitted and there are some discrepencies that will hopefully be adjustable to correct, or even up, side to side. It was dropped in the past on the right hand side, very gently laid down! So this may be part of the cause of the issue.
Of course it may be that symmetry wasn't a big deal then!

  5. I've been measuring points with it fitted and there are a couple of discrepancies I will try and adjust out. That said it may well be coming off and checking on a flat surface.

Having a distance for between the mirror mounts back edge C/L would be useful as although they appear symmetrical to the steering pivot are out a small amount in other planes.

However, I am sure this is doable.

Just discovered the brake reservoir is slightly taller than the clutch one which explains why the right side always, optically, seemed a lot closer to the frame. That was throwing me as it looked a lot further out due to that than the measurements implied!

  6. Those support arms the mirrors mount to are easily bent /snapped at the weld as the factory only seemed to be bothered with one spot weld blob per arm.

  7. It looks like someone has repaired it in the past so probably accounts for it. I guess Im going to tweak and eyeball it as best I can until I feel it all fits better.
Ive got to get an MOT on it and as the last but one had the tester fall off when the lack off lock caught him out I am keen to make sure I have as much lock as possible..but the bars were fouling the fairing where they were so now have them sat 20mm below the top yoke which seems lower than I remember.
Then I didn't have any problem with the steering lock!
