1098 Not A Good Day

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Ben Johnstone, Jul 9, 2017.

  1. went out for a quick ride today and ended up been recovered,
just seeing if anoyone has any ideas before it goes in to be looked at

Went to overtake a car, half way past and heard a strange noise coming from engine, quite like a chhh chhh chh noise)
oil pressure light was coming on and off,
seemed like it had power loss,
    oil is full,

stopped and turned it straight off to try not damage anything further

recovered home 6 hours later totally wounded :( supposed to be at the ring in 5-6weeks,

  2. Just pulled the fault codes on DTC

    as follows;
    P0352: Ignition Coil B Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
    Low input; Warning Lamp On

  3. Miss fire by the sounds of it, usually front finger coil.

  4. Any ideas why the oil pressure light was on and off?

  5. Ah yeah didn't read that bit, oil light could be down to a dodgy switch but unlikely because your having other troubles could be bottom end problem, I've known of 3 1098,s that have cracked pistons too but they would burn oil like bugger.

  6. I was resisting giving a similar reply, but it's possible unfortunately. :(

  7. Can't add anything more than the above two posts have, I do hope it's not bottom end or anything too expensive for you fella.

    Keep us updated though ;)

  8. no oil burning from what i can see, oil full and no smoke
started it up again when i got home. sounded fine,
hoping its just coils or reg rec as my batt suddendly died a few weeks back which was odd,
changed batt, now this odd behaviour

could a knackered reg rec chuck up oil light loss of power and these codes??

as i say bike sounds fine again now, no noises and no oil light

    cheers Ben

  9. Check if it is charging. Should be ~14V across battery at 2000+rpm.
    If not, regulator probably knackered.

If you are changing the regulator, get a MOSFET one.

  10. okay so had a proper look at it this afternoon, let it warm up engine starts to knock and knocks faster inline with engine revs, think my bearings are shot,

totally gutted bikes only done 7k miles

Anyone with any ideas would be appreciated, places to take it etc..

    :sob:

  11. Gutted for you if it does turn out to be bearings or bottom end troubles mate. There does seem to be history of some 1098's having issues down there though.

I have heard a few people talk very good things about Ducati John, not had any work done by him myself but knows his onions by all accounts...

Hopefully some who have suffered issues with similar symptoms will be along to offer some more advice for you shortly.

  12. Where about are you, it would help for recommendation.

  13. Sorry im in Halifax

not far from ducati john ill give him a ring tomorrow,
the knocking does seem to come from behind the gearbox at the bottom of the vertical cylinder,

    thanks Ben

  14. Are you sure it's firing on both?
Could it be that it's firing on only one and that's why it sounds as though it's knocking??

  15. DUCATI John in Rothwell

  16. He does seem to have a fine reputation...
