... If it's all above board but thumbs up the Telegraph and C4 journalists who revealed what party grandees Straw and Rifkind really think about living on the wages earned by most of the people they represent. Agree ye not?
There's only one thing I hate more than bent politicians, and that's fly-on-the-wall investigative journalists.
You can run but you can't hide So they are disgusted with themselves are they for real!!! They will get themselves investigated so you should bloody well be!!! You have no choice you have been found out They are so far up their own selves This doesn't surprise me at all
MPs should only have one job - being an MP. Looking at the Inside the Commons series, it is obvious that it is more than a full-time job, so to do it properly, they wouldn't have any time for any other job. Are they paid enough? Sort of London middle-manager's pay. Maybe they should have more. If Parliament was in Halifax, it would probably be ample, but it isn't, it's in London and London costs a bomb to live in decently. "Oh, but it's all about public service" people bleat. Well, you shouldn't have to be materially disadvantaged to serve the community. They may get enough, I'm not sure, but it probably needs looking at and some debate.
Ha ha. Richard Nixon and Neil Hamilton er al would agree with you. At least you can choose whether to read or take any notice of journalists. Politicians affect every minute of your life.
millions live in London perfectly well on considerably less than the £67k Rifkind apparently gets I can assure you!! Some if them even manage to run Ducatis I'm led to believe. Though that seems scarely credible. I must check my sources. Yep. Checked. One guy I know runs a Panigale and several other bikes, a car, has several foreign holidays a year and owns his own home in west London on less than £67k a year.
Agree with @gliddofglood in principle, I.e. They have a very busy and important job to do and that the pay structures need looking at in greater detail. However, you miss one very significant point in that a politician's salary is practically all disposable income due to the very high and unusual expenses system they award themselves. A complete lack of humility and understanding of what their constituents expect has, in my opinion, given politicians an image of self serving, greedy and arrogant.
a self employed kitchen fitter can easily make that up here, brikies during the boom where making more up here. 67k aint that much.
Perhaps if more of them paid their income tax in full instead of stealing from their fellow citizens by only working for cash, MPs could be paid a salary that would be commensurate with their, ahem, "abilities". What do others think? I think £67k is a huge amount of money to be paid, even in London. Don't forget, it's more than double the national average wage.
So Rifkind can't live on £67K a year, while many other poor sods have to live on the generosity of Osborne awarding them another 20 pence bringing their wage to £6.70 per hour.
Ooh look. Job adverts for educated people. None earning over £60k. Quel surprise! City: London, England: London Median Salaries Job Account Manager £29,688 574 salaries Software Engineer £41,253 569 salaries Software Developer £37,894 565 salaries Personal Assistant £29,426 539 salaries Project Manager, Information Technology (IT) £50,933 500 salaries Executive Assistant £35,283 490 salaries Operations Manager £38,815 438 salaries Country: United Kingdom | Currency: GBP | Updated: 21 Feb 2015 | Individuals Reporting: 61,989
Just a thought too, if no one can lead a decent life on £60+k per year, why do we expect pensioners, many of whom will have fought to defend our freedoms, to get by on less than a tenth of that figure? Any ideas?
quite an accusation. been letting some learned fellows read your posts this weekend,a surgeon,a copper, a coder and someone else. some interesting observations where made. and some choice language was used. . personally i enjoy your posts.
