1200 Not Warped Disc But Feels Like It At Slow Speed Braking

Try using specialist disc cleaner. It usually sorts this out. Also try giving your front brake a good hot workout.

This is usually a symptom of the bobbins seizing. Simple to cure using a plain 5mm cap head bolt, nut, electric screwdriver and brake cleaner. Put the cap head bolt through the bobbin, fit the nut on finger tight then with an allen key in the screwdriver, give the bobbin a wizz whilst spraying with brake cleaner. 20 minute job to do both sides. When done, you should be able to grab the disc and move it in the direction of rotation. Andy

 

I do believe I’ve fixed mine. Since week 2 I’ve had a very slight squeak and rubbing sensation from the front brake, only at the moment of stopping or when pushing it around. My dealer confirmed the discs weren’t warped and there was no symptoms over walking pace. I was convinced it was the right calliper or disc.
After reading up on seized brake disc bobbins, I decided to clean my and ensure they’re moving as they should.
After a little YouTube I found a method to clean and move them at home. 30 min hard work later and I’d found most were very stiff, with a couple almost siezed solid. One on the left disc was seized solid. But soaked in brake cleaner and some perseverance paid off. They’re all free now and the squeak and rub is gone.

 

Worth mentioning in case some only glanced at the pictures, that^^^^ is WD40 BRAKE CLEANER, never get wd 40 normal anywhere near them at any time.

 

My Hyperdoodah has done this from day one. I'll give this a try, in fact I'm off into the garage to see if they are siezed.

 

But how else do you stop squeaky brakes

My 1260 Mutley has done this from week one. Only noticeable when pushing around and slightly when riding at walking pace. Asked dealer about this at first service and they said disk wasn't warped. Will give this a try, something to do over the coming few days.

 

My 1200s also from new. only the noise when moving bike. Strange only happens when ign off.

 

Please don't hate me for this but it's a case of "They (nearly) all do that" from what I've learned .

Mine is the same. I bought my 2013 privately last December.

Long story short I had the 15K service carried out by Lee of Mototechnica (I highly recommend him by the way) in February. Due to the ice age last winter I finally got to ride it properly in March and noticed the same symptom under breaking at speeds under 5MPH. I contacted Lee and he told me that he'd seen this many times and even after changing discs under warranty when he worked for Ducati Leeds the symptom could return after a few hundred miles. He had nothing to gain by telling me this - quite the opposite. Passed MoT no problem by the way.

I've now done over 5K miles this year and its got no worse. For the record I've had real problems with discs on my ZZR 1400 over the years as they really do warp discs and it's bad!

Just thought I'd let you know in case you spend all that time and effort only to find no difference and then end up still scratching your head looking for another solution.

However if it does fix the problem let me know!

 

Just tried this and couldn't get any of them to spin. All of the bikes in the garage are exaclty the same, but only the Hyperdoodah suffers from the low speed pulsing. It actually got a little better during my trip to Italy and I've changed the pads since I got back after a lot of hard braking on my hols. I've never riden it since, but'll see how it goes, I'll just live with it if it's the same as I'm not forking out for discs just for this.

 

Suggestion only ymmv but this can be a 10 minute job or less if you use the blue and yellow Irwin quick grips from b&q with the rubber ends to grip the bobbins and turn em. Make sure they are clean of other substances before you start.

its not always the bobbins, it can also be glazed patches on your discs.
If you can't feel any significant lever pulsing but can feel the braking effort change, it is probably this.
I get this on my front discs from time to time, so much so that the variance in braking effort is enough for my local mot place to tell me its border line test failable.
A decent scotsh-brite wheel, or some emery cloth helps to remove it.

if the brakes squeak, put copper slip on the rear faces of the pads, and chamfer the leading edges of the pad material on all 4 pads.
