Nurburgring Game?

  1. Does anyone know of a good game to learn the nurburgring on?
I've been amazed at how realistic some tracks are in games and it's surprising how much help they are when going somewhere new.

  2. Probably the same one that Guy Martin did the Pikes Peak on....sorry I'm not a gamer.

  3. It's on Gran Turisimo 6 for the PS3

  4. Ahhh. Cheers mate, not got a PS3 though. Got 2 PS2s so that's a PS4 really.
Don't mind buying a console if it'll give me half a chance of enjoying myself for real.

  5. I instruct at the Ring in cars (as well as riding it for fun), we get so many guys that have done many laps on games. Many claim to know what goes where before they get on the track. In reality it is very very different to what is in the games despite how realistic the game is. A game will show you what the track is like but when you do it for real, your sensory system will overload on everything that is not in the game. By all means have some fun in virtual world but please don't get on the track thinking you know what goes where as you will almost certainly enter a corner too quick for your experiance and end up cocking your day up.
The topographical changes, grip levels, other trafic, a total of 80% blind corners, different modes of vehicle, sap/leaves from trees, weather changes, turn in points, being forced off line, even after 1000's of laps the green hell can still suprise you. It can be a very frustrating place aswell with forced closures due to accidents (Bradders will testify to that), or other reasons.
BUT it is a fabulous place, and one that has to be on the bucket list. People either love it or loathe it.
If you come out and want to meet up just ask. Also have 2 comfy guest rooms in a bike filled house.

  6. What's your quickest time? Driving or riding?

  7. Absolutely no idea. never timed of filmed. I like to keep it fun and just get kicks by being paid to do it. Helping others go faster and safer is what i do. been rattling about the ring on my old 996 since 1998. Bit out-classed by modern bikes but can still suprise a few with the knowledge !-) Not to mention getting old and creaky.

  8. Cool job. I'm sure you've seen some sights.

  9. Everything, Even the stuff you would never expect.

  10. Have you seen that bird's Boobies that was on Top Gear :Wideyed:

  11. It's more for getting a base idea of which way it goes. Bumps, cambers and all the other stuff I'd not even thought of I can cope with if I know what's coming next. To have to think about all that AND not know what's around the next blind corner would make for slow progress.
Can I take a track bike, or does it need to be fully road legal?
If I do take you up on the offer it'd be rude not to let you out on MY 996. Under 157kg wet and over 150bhp.

  12. Needs to be road legal, lights and mirrors.

  13. I could get a daylight mot without all that which would make it legal here.
I'm sure i could bodge something on it though, it's still got a battery after all.

  14. Many barely road legal bikes and cars here , Needs to have lights silenced exhaust, and indicators plus mirrors. Plus road leagal status. It is a public road with road laws applying. except that 2015 is a year of change because it passes into private ownership from 1st jan. Even us locals don't know exactly what changes will materialise, however public dates upto june are now on the web. Prices have still to be announced.

  15. The best version of the Ring in a video game I have seen is on Forza 5 on the Xbox ONE. It was built from the ground up from digital scans of the circuit and is spectacular.

  16. Doodleman, man after my own heart lol,
I've been living in Germany since 97 and was a regular until I had a huge crash at the entry to the last corner where I was hit on the inside by another Ducati ( which is had just over taken coming out of schwalbenschwanz)
2 month or so 996 trashed and broken pelvis later, I need to get back on the horse..
I have a been on with a car but not a bike since, so I guess as I have another 996 I should get my bum in gear..

I learnt the track using old videos of Helmut riding an RC30...

  17. He
Helmut still instructs here on the Motorrad training days, often with the RC30. A good friend of mine also instructs with Motorrad.
There have been a few nasty off's at Galgenkopf. Hopefully all ended well with the riders, but you never know once the helicopter has whisked them away. Normally caused by hitting fluid, been a big problem this year for many.

  18. No i havn't but then i'm not sure her fella would be too happy.

  19. Did his Mum not teach him to share?;)
