Hey all, quick one, could not find a similar thread. odd starting issue on my bike. turn ignition to on, in neutral, have the oil and the green neutral light as should, press the start button, nothing happens, as if i had the kill switch on. Sometimes it turns on 1st try, sometimes no issues for a week, yesterday, kept clicking the button and the kill switch on and off for a good 4 minutes before it finally started to turn. seems like an electrical issue, as battery tested with 12 V and bike behaves as should, just the button seems like does not work. Interestingly, sometimes I'll press the start button and let go, leave the bike for about 5 - 10 seconds, all of a sudden it starts LOL. Any ideas? guessing will have to test the switches and maybe the kill switch? Thanks,
If I have any electrical gremlins then the first thing I do is change the injector/coil/fuel pump relay. It is conveniently (not) located below the starter relay on the back of the battery box.
mine does the same thing that is untill untill i fitted a new battery a "motobatt" one with a motobatt charger cost about £20 from ebay now it fire up every time ,999s will not start with a low battery
They do have an automatic starting system . Press the button once and it should start itself . sounds like yours has a delay . It could be the earth lead . Theres one to the engine and one to the ecu . I would check to see if these are clean and tight as your symptoms tend to edge towards an intermittent electrical failure after the battery .
I have a similar intermittent problem on my Multistrada (1000DS) I plan to check/upgrade the earth and other battery cables first, then look at relays etc. My symptoms are that all electrics work, fuel pump primes etc, but nothing happens when the start button pressed (no clicking either). Next time it happens I'm going to take note of any engine warning lights, check that thwe immobiliser light deactivates etc as well. Cheers.
Ok i found theproblem. Turns out the start switch has a tiny bit of play room. If I move the button just a tinge right and then press it, it starts fine.
