Okay so we're two races in now. Looks like the king is dead, long live the king. Total domination so far by the Silver Arrows and this weekend just total domination by Lewis Hamilton. Daniel Riccardo is just plain unlucky and the Ferraris really are the Ducati of the car world. Yes, I know this is a car topic on a bike forum and yes F1 can be boring, but I like it so there
Interesting opening laps, with a few inter-team battles, but the race turned into a procession from there on.
I have a feeling that the Red bulls will probably match and exceed the Silver arrows soon once they have worked out where the differences are,but as you said, great to have a Brit winner.
not now they have turned the volume down to snoring levels or less. The only reason to go to a GP was the sound, now thats gone so will the crowds.
Not a great race as it stayed unusually dry. It's remarkable how the Renault powered teams are recovering so fast and by the time we get to Europe I think the Red Bull will be looking to claw back some of the lead in points that Mercedes would have built up. Tremendous race by Hulkenberg. Williams - They had a lot of fuel to spare, so why couldn't Massa/Bottas use it to get past the McLaren? It was actually 10Kgs of extra load slowing them down.
I would assume that the Renault teams turned the wick up a bit. Red Bull were up at the front at Melbourne, but the teams still don't know how well the cars will perform. By all accounts, they don't carry enough fuel to run each GP flat out, so its therefore a case of managing the power train. Re Williams. They are just aiming for a steady season with two top ten finishes every race, which considering how bad they've been for the last 'few' seasons isn't a bad idea
I gave up with it years ago. I found myself in front of the tv yesterday waiting for the girlfriend to come home and flipped F1 on. First impression, boring, second impression, appeared to be really slow, third impression, turn it off.
I was an avid fan for many years but I haven't watched a race since that fiasco at Indianapolis about 10 years ago when there was a problem with tyres and only 6 cars ran. We all knew that F1 was about money, but that was the day that they publicly announced to the world that the money was more important than the sport. A mate of mine is involved with F1 and tries occasionally to get me to watch. I tried to watch a race about three years ago but turned it off after 4 or 5 laps. I couldn't believe what they were doing with electronics and that thing with adjustable aerodynamics. If you were too quick they altered your settings on the fly to slow you down. WTF is that about, becasue its not racing. My mate used to work with the Xerox Ducati team and is now working for Mercedes F1. He would get me the full VIP treatment for the UK rounds, but I'm rather hoping he doesn't do the same with F1 as I don't want to offend him.
I would if I could, assuming that I even get offered the opportunity. However, when it was WSBK it was names on a list and you were met at the gate and escorted in. I'm not sure how it works with F1. I know there's more money in F1, and more glitz and glamour, but for me it will never come close spending time with TB on race day and seeing close up how the guy operates, especially when the cameras are turned off and the public are ushered away. I got to watch him take his first and only win at Donington from the pit garage. Fantastic stuff
I later found out that they didn't even start the race with the full 100Kgs of fuel as they were so confident of not using it all. I think they can be fighting for places in the top 6 and hopefully the odd podium; Especially if they can get some more downforce to sort out the traction out of the corners. If Massa had played ball, I wonder if Bottas could have got past Button? I saw some salonn cars racing at Goodwood on Saturday that was more entertaining than the F1 race but you have to have a fascination with the technology, aero, tactics, and admiring the finding of the best interpretation of the regs (a Newey speciality) to really enjoy F1.
