Just had my first MOT and it failed !!! Was gutted I had spent days and hours preparing my immaculate machine thinking nothing was needed, but no my illusion was shattered when I heard the words FAILED sir!!! So without hesitation I called for the mot tester to have it out with him regarding my bikes failure to meet his standard. He duly came over and I thought let battle begin... Well he said this is when I grabbed the nearest object to hand which actually was only a Half mug filled with lukewarm tea in it. I stood in earnest awaiting some trivial tripe to exit from his quibbling mouth......... sorry but the number plate is dirty and that is why we failed it? I hesitated before giving my reply but he then replied again saying that we cleaned it and we passed it!! I sighed with relief and duly returned the mug back to the desk to live another day.
f.sake. not a dig at your good self,(hence my post in the favorite album thread) but why is it customers think they can kick off and are never wrong. gonna start a thread on this later depending where my head is at. time to redress the balance. . the tester did the right thing. communication brake down at service desk.
If that had been Switzerland, they would have failed it and you'd have had to pay for second visit. There is no way they would have cleaned it for you. Mind you, the score is known and you wouldn't have dared show up with a dirty number plate. In fact, if you want your vehicle passed it has to be immaculate. Yup, that includes steam-cleaning the engine and chassis. Fortunately, MOTs are only once every 3 years here.
My z1000 failed a few years back...I (while in my possession) always kept it clean, and looked after it. It failed on the headbearings being "notchy" so the tester told me....then it looked like this....new bearings top and bottom and it passed. The first and only time one of my bikes has failed....I truly felt embarrassed.....like when youre kids kick off in public...
Stupid question time, if you spent so long cleaning and prepping for MOT, why didn't you also clean the plate?? Or did you ride via a green-lane to the testing station??
People who know me will understand that the first paragraph is just so not true!!!! I never clean my bike, and I could still see the number plate just.
My local MOT shop is really helpful too. Fred Hanks Motorcycles for those interesed in the Birmingham area. I think it helps the longer you know any place though.
my day started with a fella waiting at the door giving me attitude that his reversing camera wasn't working on his van, not only did i not supply it,fella bought it himself (ebay) i didn't fit it, to busy so i gave him a number of the local auto electrician i use but he was to busy to book it in himself so asked me to book which i did i even dropped the van off for him. a week passes and here he was kicking off at my door suggesting it was my fault it was not working because i recommended the fella and wanted a refund? wtf,? in the door ten minutes the phone goes, conversation starts like this, allow mate i would like to book me car in for some warranty work, ok i say whats the problem? now, he had his piece of shit 16 year old galaxy in with an intermittent miss fire and safety check as he was heading back down to the south coast for a month on tour but didn't want to spend a penny on it, so threw a set of plugs in it test drove it all good, he continues on yeh cars been great mate never gone so well BUT since getting it back it's developed a slight misfire under full load it was alright when i brought it in, i know i have done a couple of thousand miles since then but it was never right from the minute i left, so when can i bring it in and i wont be spending anova penny on it. wtf? i ask him if he can remember why he booked it in, safety check he says, no intermittent misfire i ask and the car has never gone so good? yeh he says i must of forgot to do something?. cock. yesterday a fella came in with his v.w.touran or torag or sumit i put brakes on 6months ago, he was calm enough but accused me of not servicing it properly because his mot tester advised the engine oil was low, so when i explained to him i haven't serviced that one and it's been 6months since i looked at it anyway i could hardly be held responsible he proceeded to slag of the dealer he had bought it from a year previously for not checking it properly? wtf. and just to finish off my day about an hour ago a young scrote turns up to book his car in for a pre mot and accuses me (nicely) of braking his headlight as the beam pattern wasn't right on the drivers side dip, put it right for him bulb upside down then proceeded to remind him it was the passenger main beam bulb i fitted for him last week, but there was no charge anyhoo. oh yeh he says sorry about that. don't apologize just yet i am thinking to my self cos you have got some attitude tax coming your way next week you little wa.k. picked the wrong f.ing day my friend luckily this sort of shit is rare in here, not so in dealerships it's always the mechanics fault, always. i recon it is a lot worse in bike shops due to the amount of buggering about the owners will do to there own machines. Ooo makes me mad!!..
Gone are the days when I used to turn up at my local mot station with nothing but my last mot certificate . He makes me take the bike as well now . Think hes bowed to the establishment myself.
Not coming to you for anything, looks like a lack of customer service and technical ability all round....
