Worth fitting? What should I be looking at cost wise for a set? Close to a grand, and any recommendations where to get some? Thanks
You'll need the forks and the bottom yoke, looking myself. Loads of Aprilia ones about but external adjusters ruin the look.
front should give you less upgrade then rear, no? the showa's are underestimated... perhaps service with upgrade internals should take you further... the rear seems to handle more , determines geometry more in its functuioning, no? look carefully and you'll find a good set for 800 gbp.. yokes should be no problem to find either... grtz Koen
Can you really feel the difference on the road (not track) between the Ohlins stuff and the Showa? Or do you have to do a lot of fine tuning of the Ohlins to get it to perform significantly better? Reason I ask is that I once had a 999s with the Ohilins rear, and now have a 999 bog standard but slightly later model with Showa. I can't say I ever felt, on the road, that I had downgraded suspensionwise, but then I didn't take the S to a suspension specialist for set up (or the current 999, come to that).
Well I've had a play inside my Showas and tbh, they work at least as well as Ohlins R&T, which are light years ahead of a set of road forks but still no great shakes...if you want real Ohlins performance, and not just rebadged Japanese forks from the days when Yamaha owned them, you'll need a set of FG200's.......
Get the standard forks revalved by a specialist and they will work just as well as the basic Ohlins for far less cost.
My local independent told me just to get the originals serviced and set up properly as you would only notice the difference if racing.
