998 Ohlins Front Fork Offset

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Wazza, Dec 6, 2015.

  1. Hello may I ask how the offset of the front forks are set I ask because I had a set of 999s ohlins front forks on So I had to buy some 15mm offset front disks
I ve just bought some different ohlins front forks I do believe to be from a 2000 996sps because the 15mm offset disks don't fit so I m having to fit my original 10mm offset disks

So is the offset in the fork bottoms ?

    Many thanks

  2. Basically, yes.

IIRC 749-999 (all variants) used 15mm offset discs, as did the 748R and 998R, all of the other 748-998 series used 10mm offset discs.

  3. So the offset is in the fork bottoms ?

  4. As said above 15mm for the ohlins from a 748r 998r and 10mm for the showa from 748 998 , any pictures of the forks

  5. I uploaded some pics on my photo album if that's any good

  6. I've got some nice 998 floaters or some Althea racing wavey floaters if you fancy a swap for the 15mm ones :)

  7. As far as I know: the 10mm offset for 996SPS Ohlins is driven by the thickness of the calliper mount bracket on the fork bottom On the 748R version, the fork bottom calliper bracket is 5mm thicker which spaces the calliper out by 5mm which creates the 15mm offset unique to the R.

  8. afaik, all the oem ohlins forks used 15mm offset
(but i have been wrong before so maybe the 996 sps is an exception)
the aftermarket ohlins road and track forks used 10mm offset

you can tell usually them apart as the OEM fork bottoms have one piece cast fork bottom, R&T forks usually have bolted on bracket for the caliper.

post up a pic and might be able to help further

  9. 996 sps 10mm offset
    all other ohlins 15mm
I've has a set of both 996sps and 996r ohlins...the only difference is the fork bottoms have a little skimmed off where the calliper's sit

  10. Ok thanks gentlemen for your help so the stock rotors should be fine as they 10mm yes

  11. the 15mm rotors are rare and sought after so you will make money back easily if they are in good shape

  12. They are fully floating Brembo 6mm ones not selling I keep everything
