Hi all Just changed oil all seemed ok but oil dripping from oil pick up filter which I removed and cleaned does it use the same copper washer as the sump plug any help appreciated
Different parts with different part numbers each cost around 30-40p Oil screen gasket 852.5.005.1A Oil drain plug gasket 220.3.208.3A They fit a lot of different bikes so should be easy to get hold of. You could try Halfords with the originals for sizing and get generic copper ones that fit
Think you'll find it's an Ali washer although I can't see why copper would be a problem. Either way it should be renewed whenever disturbed, only a few pennies from dealer or other suppliers.
If you havn't got a replacement, heat it up with a blow lamp and drop it in cold water, it will soften the copper for reuse. Take it off the bike first.
Screwfix or Toolstation do a part multipack of copper washers covering pretty much all the sizes you'll ever need. Costs around £15 IIRC and will last year's. Been using copper washers on drain plug and mesh filters on a variety of Ducati's for years with no probs. I normally flip them over and reuse once and replace every third time. As has been mentioned you can heat them up to cherry red to anneal them and reuse even after this. You can often find the same multipacks at auto jumbles whenever they might happen again
Its worth checking that the washer didn't move and get nipped as you tightened the filter screen back into the casing. The guys at Italia Lincoln advised me to stick it onto its seat on the filter screen bolt head with a spot of grease, to prevent it dropping off, getting nipped and thus not sealing correctly.
