950 Oil Consumption.

  1. Good morning everyone.

    Now that I have plenty of time my hands my mind has started plotting my moto strategy.

    I ride a 1200 Mts 14 twin spark at the moment and I'm encouraged to see that some on here are at or over 50,000 miles. So keeping it is defo an option.

    But one thing about mine, and also others have mentioned, is that on continental tours where it might be highway heavy it uses oil. None motorway riding not so much oil consumption.

    My eye has glanced in the direction of the 950 as a poss replacement.

    My questions are

    does the 950 oil consumption rise with highway riding like the 1200 does

    And, recent posts are saying the 1260 lazy starting gets worse in cold weather and a few have had failure to start. Does this apply to the 950 too.

  2. I have a twin spark with 18000 miles on it. Its never used a drop of oil between oil changes. And while that might be not the case for some owners, I have never heard of this as being a typical issue with this model.

  3. I had a 2013 Twin Spark from new. It didn't use oil until it had done about 10-11,000 miles and then it started to use about 3/4 ltr/1000 miles.
    It was still under warranty so my excellent dealer fought for me and got new pistons and barrels under warranty. Once fitted I had no more oil consumption.
    Visual inspection of the old pistons and barrels didn't show anything obvious, but there must have been some wear to start using oil.
    Ref the 950 Multi. I had one for a day whilst my DVT was in for service. It did not compare well with the 1200. I missed the mighty power and torque, but mostly I missed Skyhook. The bike rattled my bones at every bump and it highlighted to me just how good Skyhook is.

  4. I had a 950 from new for 3 years before my 1260s & I put little amounts in as I always liked to keep it at max level
