Oil Leak

  1. hi guys, I have a 2008 Ducati 1098. I popped a wheelie and camedown hard today. When I parked my bike I noticed a lot of oil leaking. Anyone know what may have happened?

  2. Is it coolant?

Remove the fairing and inspect further.

  4. Coming down hard from a wheelie is unlikely to cause any engine issue - front forks take the punishment. It does look like coolant rather than oil. Taking off the fairing and inspecting does seem sensible. Run the engine to look for leaks without the fairing...

  5. I don't think it is an issue with recent and current models but on older Ducatis pulling a wheelie could lead to engine oil being drawn into the airbox which would then run out the drain hose.

  7. Time to start using the spare stead then. Check the rad mounts. Looks very similar to what I had on my 848 AND multistrada in terms of the flick pattern/locations. Other thing to consider is that you could have had oil leaking into the pan for a while and the wheelie has just spread it everywhere. Fairing off & inspect

  8. I'm wondering if the wheel has hit the rad and damaged it at the mount points

Agree the only real way to know what's going on is to get the fairings off and start looking around

  9. If you have a genuine Ducati oil filter thats older stock (but look same) they had some issues with slight leaking until engine up to temp and when stood. So a small bit of oil can pool and look like a oil leak as such.
    Check around the oil filter

  10. Again, it does not look like oil. Maybe a coolant hose got loose after the heavy wheelie “landing”.
