Hi everybody Ducati 1098s 2007 About 36 000 km Motul 7100 15w50 oil I need help clarifying two questions and suggestions on how to proceed. Question 1: Last summer my oil pressure switch went. Oil pressed trough the top. Replaced with new orginal. Rode trough the rest of the season no problem. Pretty sure it was the old stock one. Now during the winter I thought I check oil pressure with oil pressure gauge. Ducati states Minimum oil temp 80c 1100 to 1300 rpm Greater than 0.8 bar 3500 to 4000 rpm Greater than 4 bar Pressure must never exceed 6 bar. Just idling a bit above 80c I get around 2-3 bar and greater than 4 around 4000 rpm. If I rev higher I get a bit higher than 6. Maybe around 6,5-7,5 bar according to my yato gauge. It's in 0.5 increments so it is kind of hard to see. Don't know how accurate the gauge is either. Should this be of concern? Should I check my relief valve and when I'm there might as well change to hole pump since it's just slightly more expensive than the valve? Bike seems fine otherwise. Thinking a stuck valve would give even higher pressure? Question 2: While waiting on the bike to warm up, getting closer to 80c I got error batt 5.1 and the lights turned off. I'm guessing my rectifier got hot even to outside temp is 2c? I got a new Yuasa battery. It is on stock regulator at stock location. Should this be replaced as preventiv maintenance? If so, which one should I choose? A new stock one or something else? If something else please do send me a link to a correct one within the EU. No Chinese. Thank you all and take care
No one has any input on oil pressure? For rr I'm considering this one found in another thread. Opinions? https://www.carmo-electronics.com/webshop/voltage-regulator-rectifier/carr531-mosfet-ducati
Oil pressure I can’t comment on without further investigation of the bike. r/r - check its output before spending money, you should have a fairly constant 14.14.5v across the battery terminals when the bike is idling and also at 5-6K rpm. If not, replace it. If it is then investigate why else the error code came up. If you do need to get a new one, get a MOSFET series type (not the shunt type). Carmo is a good and reputable supplier but I’ve also had good products from Ultimate Rectifier, also in NL. In fact my go to now is UR.
Thank you Paul. I have no other signs of high oil pressure. The crankcase ventilation is clean, no oil in air box, non in the tube coming from airbox. Don't know what else to look at? I have no problem replacing the pump and valve but rather wait until next service since I just did an oil change. I have no other leaks. No blown seals and so on. Thank you for the tip. Will check voltage and suggested vendor. I have never had any problem before. I think it just got hot but since it's cold it really shouldn't be a problem so maybe it's on it's way out.
I’ll admit I’ve never measured oil pressure at revs higher than that which is stated in the service manuals - it’s probably nothing to worry about.
I think the Recomended oil is a 10/40 grade, although many will use 15/50 as you do. Could this be the reason for the slightly upped oil pressure at higher revs?,
Could be the thicker oil. I ran 10/40 before but got a super deal on some 15/50 so that's why it's in there. Ah, my interpretation of the service manual was that pressure must not exceed 6 bar during any time but it's just at 3500-4000?
