Hi, I suspect I have a dodgy oil pressure switch but before I swap it out I want to check the oil pressure on my 748 to be certain, can anyone give me a suggestion as to the best value for money gauge to buy please? I have searched through the forum already and spent a fair amount of time on Amazon but there are thousands of different ones out there, some measure up to 300psi which means the scale will be pretty inaccurate for my use and I can't find anything that specifies it has an M10 adapter; the information about the adapters is always vague. I don't want to have it delivered then find I can't use it and have to wait another week - 10 days for another part. Thanks in advance. Paul
How about this:- http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eB...ategory=35625&pm=1&ds=0&t=1529999692000&ver=0 Has m10 adaptor
Thanks Nelly for the additional piece of information, its appreciated to avoid a buggered thread in the crankcase

It is, but thank you anyway, and it works. However, I didn't really want to spend £130 coz I've got to get new tyres as well very soon. I'll keep searching and keep this as a fall back.
This one was just underneath it... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TIT-010-Oil-Pressure-Meter-Test-Kit-Tester-Gauge-Diesel-Petrol-Car-Garage-Tool/121937106962?_trkparms=aid=555018&algo=PL.SIM&ao=2&asc=20160908110712&meid=16a1bea5a2f1468b89f3e0cc9a53413c&pid=100677&rk=1&rkt=12&mehot=lo&sd=252744291208&itm=121937106962&_trksid=p2385738.c100677.m4598 And there's one for £30 too
You can do something for less than that, I'd make something up using a gauge like this:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pressure...d-or-Hose-Tails/221710267323?var=520556354314 A hose tail like this:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pressure...d-or-Hose-Tails/221710267323?var=520556354315 An adapter for the crankcase:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/B2-00306...294460?hash=item362888e63c:g:RqEAAOSwVqlaQKgJ Some 6mm ID fluid hose (fuel pipe would do for a short test) and a couple of hose clips.
OK, got one for £40 inc postage. Checked the oil pressure and now I know it's definitely a dodgy switch. 5 bar at tick over and 5.5 at 4-5k revs with a cold engine. However, I double checked the workshop manual and there was supposed to be a crush washer between the switch and the crankcase. None present on mine. Couldn't get a crush washer locally so used a standard washer and a fibre washer. This lifts the switch about 2mm further out and bingo, now no oil warning light after starting the engine.
@PaulPhillips, an old thread I know but just came across this. The switch will fail sometime again in the future unfortunately. It’s the vibes from the engine that kill them and that’s why Ducati moved the location of the sensor switch from the clutch cover to the oil cooler lines on later models. Just messing about with my sensor and going through all the threads...
