Oil Pressure Light

  1. Hi all I could do with a little help. My 2012 Multistrada 1200 oil light go’s straight out on start up but not all the way off, there’s just a dot in the middle that doesn’t change just stays constant small red dot of hell. If anyone has any thoughts on this or do I rip the engine out and say goodbye to a lot of money. I don’t know to much about the bike I’ve had it a few weeks now and it run great, done the full service with no metal in the strainer or oil filter, replaced breather hose as that was not good. Any help please before engine out.

  2. It's a faulty dash. The MTS1200 that I owned had a similar issue with the neutral light and main beam warning light remaining lit dimly although the oil pressure light wasn't affected. I believe it is quite a common fault on the 1200s.

  3. I’d highly suspect Italian gremlins in the electronics
I had Italian gremlins in an old Alfa 75, I found black insulation tape covering the offending light worked well.

  4. You could bung a continuity tester/Ohm-meter across the switch contacts to check it. It should be ON/CLOSED with engine off and OFF/OPEN with engine oil pressure present.

  5. Thanks Carr01 I did the same to a rover 75

  6. Disconnect the wire from the oil pressure sender, if the light goes out then it's likely the sender but if not then the above mention of the dash seems more likely.
