Oil Washers

  1. I'm thinking of doing an oil change on my 916 this weekend.
Do you guys change the washers every time you do?

I know the drain plug part number is: 220.3.208.3A
and the Screen washer is: 220.3.205.5A

Just wondering if I need them for this weekend are they standard washers used for other things?
I'm not close to a Ducati dealer, but would Halfords or some auto store keep them maybve under a different name?

  2. I just purchased three sets to undertake some oil changes on a few bikes. £1.66 for all three sets from a Ducati dealer, and they were in stock!!!! not bad considering as my local dealer he never seems to have anything and virtually everything I need I have to order.

  3. Maybe I'll drive down to Bristol Ducati and go get some...
I'll probably spend £30 in petrol, but it's a rainy weekend and I'm rubbish at waiting for things to be delivered :)

  4. I have re-used them a couple of times without a problem......on one occasion, the side facing the 'nut' was a bit scored, so a smear of 3 Bond dealt with any possible issues.

  5. Thanks Arquebus, perhaps I'll have a look at them and see what sort of condition they're in, could always polish them up or 3 Bond like you say - if they don't look good, then I'll trip down to the dealer..
    Cheers

  6. The aluminium type you actually feel 'spread' whilst torquing. I chuck these after one shot. The copper type feel more durable and I've used over a couple of oil changes if I've got none spare. If I have spare I'll change every time.

  7. Let's face it.........what can actually go wrong with re-using an ally washer?

    1) The plug drips a bit.......(it isn't going to p*ss out)
    2) The plug comes undone.....(not if it is lockwired)
    3) The plug is over-torqued by far too much and the threads rip out of the sump......(don't over-torque it........there is probably a 5N 'margin of error' anyway)

  8. Sunny forecast Saturday for Le Bristol.

Wouldn't believe that now looking out of the window now though ......

  9. It's hossing it down here as well.........Mrs AL wants the central heating on and I'm too tired to use the other method.......;)

  12. sorry its just started raining.

  13. I reused the all washers :) all done!
However the bike did take all 4 litres, every drop of the Motul 4L can was used! In fact it might need a touch more!

if I do, can I stick a dash of synth car oil in there, similar spec?? What do you reckon? I prob only need a quarter pint extra, but don't want to spend another £60 for another 4 litres of Motul!

  14. NB it was sunny today, but I didn't go to Bristol, stayed in Gloucester and reused my washers! :)

  15. Not ideal but not a problem either, as you have a dry clutch.

  16. Buy a litre bottle of Motul and use that
