What a crap ride I have had It started raining overnight on the ferry and it has been torrential all the way. Stopped overnight at Chalon sur Saone and just got to the hotel and it started with a thunderstorm left there this morning in the pouring rain I got to the Frejus tunnel it was heaven dry and warm.So warm in fact the bike temp shot up. Emerged 13kms later to dry roads 26 degrees an a bit of sun. now spending the night in alessandria won't do this again
I know the feeling higgy. It rained for a thousand miles - heavily - when I went to Mugello:frown: Never mind, skin's waterproof...
Unlucky mate, it always sems to be raining in northern France, I've had the same, then as you head south the sun comes out, loverly ! Next time ride to Dusseldorf and take the Aototrain overnight to Allessandria, save a lot of wet riding . Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.
Hi Figaro, Unfortunately my plans this year were scuppered by cashflow problems . But a friend at work has done this a couple of times and loves it. I was hoping to use it for a Misano or Mugelo trip or similar and save a day or 2 travelling, costs vary wildly depepnding on time of year and what deals they have on but are between 100 and 300 quid, which you can offset against Fuel and accomodation costs. This site is really good and has all the info and links. Complete guide to Motorail trains in Europe: Taking your car by train
Well I spent 366 euros on fuel going to Brno and back last month (about 900 miles, so comparable with Italy or Spain), plus you have to factor in overnight stays, so even £300 for the train isn't that scary. Just trying to convince my brother that someone responsible will be tying his beloved 1098 down...
By the way, if anyone else is considering putting their bike on the autotrain, you can't ride on the train with the bike, it's a cargo train only. So the idea is you dump the bike at Paris and hop on an Easyjet flight to your destination, then pick the bike up on arrival.
Five years ago I rode to the south of France on my Blade with some Friends (the girls went in an MPV). When we left home the weather was glorious. Got to the M25 and it lashed down (and I mean proper lashed it down and not that fine rain that gets you wet). Managed to get to South Mimms services so I could get my rain suit on (which I'd thankfully brought along). Rode from there down to Dover and it rained in biblical proportions all the way, only stopping when we actually arrived at the Eurotunnel And that was the only rain we then saw for a fortnight The rest of the trip was fantastic. I'd recommend it to anyone as an adventure.
When you get on the chunnel to come home, you may as well put your waterproofs on, cos it always pisses down once you get back to England:frown:
Me and three mates went to LeMans last year, out the six days, I only saw one or two spots of rain on my visor a couple of miles from home. Just thought I`d mention it . Looks like the sun really does only shine on the good and the righteous  .
Well if I hadn't of been taken out in July I'd of been on the way to Misano myself, I'd have probably been somewhere near either lake como or bologna today heading to Rimini this evening. Enjoy it, it'll be a great weekend I'm sure.
Well I'm in Bologna and have been for a couple of days. Unfortunately I'm stuck at a Veterinary Congress so won't be able to make MotoGP....so close, yet so far away :0(
The rain it rains both on the just and on the unjust fella But mainly on the just - for the unjust has the just's umbrella.
