916 Options To Sell My 916sps

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Messer, Jan 31, 2019.

  1. Hi All,

Looks like I was never meant to keep this 916 SPS.. Originally it was thought I would have to sell it to go towards my January tax bill, I managed to sort that out without having to sell a bike and now my 6 month old Audi S4 has been pinched leaving me with not only bills bills bills but also the need to buy a new car quickly whilst my insurance sort it all out.

Anyway back to it, my local Ducati specialist suggested it would be around a 14-15k bike to the right person, at the right time. But, if I wanted to sell it quicker, which I do then I should be willing to listen to offers, which I am.
Are there any decent bike specialists out there who would buy such a bike and mark it up? Its such a lovely thing and wouldnt look out of place in any showroom.
The bike, its done 9600 miles and Ive just spent thousands on it to get it to the standard its in. Have had the bike verified by Ducati, and have original service books, old MOT's and service receipts to warrant mileage etc.

  8. sell the 748

  9. I dont think I can sell the 748. Thats kind of last one that I even consider for some reason. The SPS first, alternatively the RG500.. But for some reason, I couldnt let go for the 748R. That would probably be the easiest to sell as well

  10. for starters, its an SPS and that one in your link isnt an SPS.... I could stop there I think ;-)

  12. It’s described as being one in the advert though, so like I said, ‘You’ll need to be very specific as to why yours is worth so much more’.

  13. Hopefully, a buyer will know how special an SPS is. And just because a BiPosta is described as an SPS, its very much isnt. Hmm, maybe I could add 'Brough Superior' in my description and add another £100k on the price?

  14. Ha Ha: who know’s , you might get away with it?
Or you may get done for fraud?
Good luck with the sale, but I wouldn’t assume everyone with £15k burning a hole in their pocket for an investment bike would realise the significance of the homologation specials, so better to make it easy for them.
Unless you don’t want to sell it to an ignorant banker?

  15. As above, try Sheffield - they will likely pay more than anyone in the trade.
I've seen a few for £14 to 15k at dealers over the last year - with some silly prices up to £20k.
To sell it quickly it's anybodies guess.
A no reserve auction on Ebay would peter out circa £10k at a guess and certainly not reach £12k. There's a Bonham's & a Coy's sale coming up soon that gets a large collector audience of course but they will take a cut.
You may get interest and an offer on here due to this post of course, it may include wotsits :eyes:

  16. It looks like Showa forks, I thought these had Ohlins?

  17. No, 98 916SPS has Showa front. only the later 996SPS had ohlins.
