Overflow(?) Pipe From Carbs Leaking

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by ck_uk, Apr 10, 2017.

  1. After fettling about with my SS recently, I now seem to have more than the usual number of rubber pipes dangling down underneath the engine. More concerningly, one of the pipes is leaking fuel after the bike has been started up, and continues to do so after the engine is switched off. Tracing these pipes upwards, they appear to connect to the underside of the carbs. Photos taken from underneath the carbs looking upwards.

Question is what are these for, and should they be connected to anything?

  2. A float valve not sealing??

  3. I think that float bowls on carbs with heaters (like yours) have a common port for both the overflow as well as the drain, like Old Rider says it could be a sticking float valve, or simply that the drain screw is loose.

The float bowls on non heated carbs have separate overflow and drain ports.

    Mr bimble.

  4. Thanks guys. Should these pipes just be hanging down to nowhere though?

  5. Normally routed along the frame and down the left side of the engine to a clip under the alternator cover forward of the side stand, along with the battery overflow I think.
