Paint Question

  1. Hello Chaps

I’ve a quick paint question. I’m in need of painting the block on my 999 engine whilst it out the frame.

I’ve purchased some engine touch up paint from Bike Colours, however it’s far too dark. On closer inspection of the ad, they actually only supply the engine side case colour. The block is quite a bit lighter.

So my question is. Has anyone found a good paint match for the block? I’m thinking about buying a can of silver VHT smooth in silver to see how it goes and hopefully get a match. Anyone else have this issue at all?

  2. The best engine paint i have ever used is Plasikote BBQ matt black, i restored a Moto Guzzi nearly ten years ago its still looks good no flaking it really keys in well and very tough.

  3. I managed to find an almost direct match. Used Hammerite smooth silver. Should hold up well.

  6. Don't use VHT paint. It won't get hot enough to cure and will just rub off when cleaning. Advice based on experience.
