Paint - Where To Go, Agip Decals, General Advice

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by Humbug, Feb 12, 2021.

  1. Hi all

I was wondering who the best people are to go to for painting?

    I've seen someone post:

    http://www.paintsupremacy.com/

and I've contacted Dream Machine, who did me an incredible paint job - a Smokin Joe VFR400 (in my defence, it was the '90s). I doubt they'll be cheap, but they do pick up; complete bikes if necessary.

    Anyone else?

My situation: no workshop, no paint skills whatsoever, central London. Budget - £600-£800 I guess.

I dropped it in December on diesel, resulting in numerous small scuffs, cracks and dings, and a twisted handlebar. It's now fully functional after a visit to my mechanic (who doesn't paint).

I'd say after 25 years all the panels, and the tank will need paint as they will have suffered some fading.

Oh yeah, and any idea where to get the Agip decals?

    Cheers,

    Humbug

  2. They look good, will check the measurements. Even the silver decals are available on ebay, though I've not found the complete set yet. I'll do some more google search for motorcycle decals, I expect there are specialists out there.

  3. Racepaint UK have always done a nice job for me. I’ve had fairings repaired and painted, 2 pairs of wheels and a spoiler for my van. All the work Terry had in his unit were stunning jobs, good selection of modern classics given a new lease of life

  4. Not sure where in London you are, but if you can get to these people they seem pretty good. Plus Karl is a bit of a Ducati enthusiast, owns an 118S.

  5. Thank you, I have contacted him via Facebook. Will also contact other suggestions.

Paint Supremacy are out of my price range.

I have an excellent 'man and van' delivery guy who I could use for further flung locations.

  6. Sorry to read this Humbug, I missed this thread.

I haven't used them myself but have heard all good results, including Pete getting his Pantah work done when they were at Cranleigh:-

  7. I had my carbon fibre seat unit painted by BoyzToyz in Essex...did a great job at a good price.

The seat unit decals came from Image Works. I got them to cut the '1' out of the number board so the carbon would show through. Great quality decals, fast turnaround. These guys have a good rep. for quality.

  8. I'm having a rethink - spending 1.5K+ on a full respray really doesn't add up, considering the value of the bike.

I can pick up a decent quality RHS rear fairing for about £100 on ebay, but the big RHS front /side fairing is rarer in decent nick.

Don't suppose anyone has one hanging around, without any cracks, that is willing to part with it?

Alternately someone that can help me with a fibreglass repair to mine, plus has a makeshift paint booth? I have some rattle can paint cans, though they're a few years old, but no workshop.

Alternately I'll ask one of the paint shops on this thread if they'll just repair that panel.

  9. "spending 1.5K+ on a full respray"

You need to get some more quotes..that is crazy overpriced.

I currently budget £500 for a respray.. still perfect quality if you find the right person.

Can you not ask around for a local painter..and ask to see examples of their work?

  10. Can you point us in a general direction to find a respray at £500? - I haven't got any recent experience, partly depending on quantity, shape and size of panels but that sounds too far the other way to me..

  11. Not where I live in central London there aren't.

If I just stick to the side / front panel, I can get it off the bike myself (from memory the only tricky part is the indicator light cable, 4 hands are better), and get it trucked to a painter in say, Essex.

For a complete respray, I can't take all the panels off - and especially the tank - what I can't do is empty it, as I have nothing to empty it into, or anywhere to store petrol.

The rear fairing is the same fit on all dual-seat SS models, I hope? So fitting one from a 600SS or 750SS is fine?

not sure which panel but all rear are interchangeable. :upyeah:

  13. Thank you.

Rear right panel, has a small crack, probably easier to replace the panel than repair / repaint.

Emailed every painter mentioned on this thread, thank you all.

  14. These panels from my monster were all red and I had them sprayed up in corse colours and relaquared. Cost was £250. Sheerspeed in Kent.
