Painting Calipers

  1. I've had a set of brembo calipers fully serviced and refinished in silver. Fantastic job BUT the silver finish just doesn't suit the sport classic and really should have been mat black. Does anyone know if it's feasible to spray and what paint to use ?

  2. If the finish is neutral and does not react with overpainting then you should be fine. A decent paint should adhere without primer providing you are getting a good coverage and you prepare the surface.

Any decent two pack paint should do the job, I would avoid aerosols though as they are generally not good enough and coverage is often too thin.

You can use caliper paint but it is best sprayed on as hand painting will leave brush marks in all likelihood. It is durable but could get chipped if hit by stones as the calipers are less protected than having them fitted to a car.

  3. Cheers red , I've posted the calipers back for refinishing mat black. I would not have been happy with chips or the brake fluid stripping paint.

  4. I have successfully painted two sets of callipers with smooth Hammerite.
Dead easy, doesn't come off and looks fine.

  5. +1 for hammerite smooth.

  6. Are we talking hammerite smooth gold, same as the one some people have used for the petrol caps?

Just wondering as my petrol cap could do with painting and the gold on the brembos looks faded and a bit naff...

    Cheers, ian

  7. Ta, then lacquered?

  8. No lacquer required.
Just make sure you leave them to dry properly. I think it takes a week or something if I remember correctly.

  9. I did mine last winter.Bit cold in the shed really.Gave them time to dry, turned out well.Nice finish and ,so far,not bothered with brake fluid.Touch wood.Oh,no laquer on mine either.
