899 Panigale 899 Clutch Issue.

  1. Hi!
I thought I'd ask on here for any advice or guidance as I'm at a complete loss.
Apologies if I've gone about this the wrong way, this forum stuff is all very new to me.

It would seem that DOT 4 has leaked from the clutch master cylinder area on my 899 but I cannot be sure where it came from, it's slightly damaged the left side fairing and upper edge on the side of the nose cone/front fairing.
The only slight, and I mean very slight moisture I've found is from around the bleed nipple on the master.
The threads around the reservoir are bone dry and so is the dust cover at the lever/piston plunger and the banjo underneath.
I haven't bled the clutch or brakes and disturbed anything since around April 2021.
I've lost no pressure on the lever either, still nice and firm.
I checked the bleed nipple for tightness and managed to get about 1/8th of a turn on it without hanging off it and breaking it.
It's the only logical place it could have come from in my mind but why now after so much time and around 3k miles?
It just doesn't make sense to me.
I've even strapped the clutch lever back to the bar for around 30 mins so as to keep it under pressure and check for leaks, I didn't want to strap it for any longer than that as in real world use it would never happen and I didn't want to blow a seal.
Any help or insight is very much appreciated.

  2. I was going to suggest strapping the lever back and checking for leaks on the piston/seal but you’ve done that, have you checked the pipe from the reservoir to the master cylinder for cracks or splits?

  3. Hi Zeus thanks for the reply.
Yes done that too, inspected visually and squeezed but nothing!
It's a real mystery, been checking it around 3 times a day at all areas since the weekend when it happened.

  4. Maybe it was coming from the bleed nipple if you managed to nip it up a bit, I’d just monitor it and see if that’s fixed it.

  5. I think it's all I can do honestly, I'm just worried of it causing more damage.
Hopefully this is the end of it.
    Thanks again.

  6. If it was me I'd wrap the areas in toilet paper, old sock also over reservoir and tape up the toilet paper. Go for a ride and see if anything becomes damp.

  7. I think it may come to that if I don't find anything before Saturday when I take it out again.
    Thanks Cream_Revenge.
