On tour in Italy and had stopped up and locked my wife's helmet in the pannier. When I went to take it out the barrel just twirled in the lock hole and then came out with the key. Although it would slide back in it would not get any grip to unlock the pannier. I rang my dealer who advised trying to turn it with pliers or a screwdriver but in the end I had to basically butcher the lock to get it undone. Suspect it is going to mean the whole pannier needs replacing. Anyone else had this problem?
Sounds like the small security screw has come out inside the pannier fitting. You will need to dismantle the pannier mounting mechanism n refit the screw. You also have a locking tab at the inner end of the tumbler. However, if you have trashed the lock, you should be able to get a replacement from the dealer. If its a new bike/pannier. Had similar but was lucky, turned key to unlock and the barrel came out with the key, was able to carry on using pannier just unable to lock pannier or lock it to bike. No as bad as yours
