When turning the key in the pannier lock today, the entire barrel assembly fell out, leaving the pannier secured to the bike, locked shut and containing a load of frozen fish (inevitably). On getting home, I decided to see if I could get the thing removed without too much destruction. It took this first-time bike thief less than five minutes to completely strip the thing down, open and remove the pannier from the bike, and without actually damaging anything. I'm going to be lot more careful about what I leave in the panniers when parked in future. I just hope they've improved the security on the DVT panniers. I also wasn't previously aware that the entire weight of pannier and contents is just suspended from a bunch of self-tapping screws into the soft plastic of the pannier. What a truly execrable design.
