PC or Apple Mac?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by PhilB, Sep 17, 2012.

  1. We'll I've just about had enough of the PC terrorists, yes hackers and creators of virus's, trogans and maleware, no I don't mean the clothing!
Then you load your PC up with anti everything, then it takes three weeks to boot up, so do I stick with the PC and have to update everyday or check out the latest gizmo's from PC's rival APPLE?
    Any suggestions
    cheers Phil

  2. You could have opened a big can of worms here! There have been a few recent threads about smart phones and tablets, and there are folk who will bang on about this is best or that is best. My personal opinion is that the Apple is better than a pc. I've had mine for 3 years and love it. No need for anti virus, superb screen, easy to use, links up to the iPad and iPhones ( which followed the Mac) and wouldn't now go back to Microsoft! Still have to use a laptop for work but the firm are currently changing over to Apple, which when you consider I work for Openreach says a lot to me!

  3. Apple all the way. I changed about 3 years ago after a lifetime of PCs, both personal use and in a 21 year IT career.

My only regret was not changing earlier ;0)

  4. i changed to apple last month..............not looked back though can be a bit quirky at first you get use to it!

  5. Same for me here. I'm a Mac advocate now.

One thing I'll say is that they are writing viruses for Macs now, there's just not as many people writing them and not as many exploits. There's free AV software out there though. The next wave of viruses will be aimed at mobile devices - if you have a jailbroken iPhone this is only possible through exploiting a known vulnerability. This may end up being another plus for iPhones though, ironically. They'll soon be overtaken in market share by Android devices (if they're not already, can't be bothered to check) and Android isn't as tight, or controlled, as the iOS so lazier hackers will target it.

  6. Mac all the way.
to many reasons to explain why

  7. I use a pc for work but have an iPhone (work and personal) and an iPad (personal) and they are the simplest products ever. I would switch to Apple in a heartbeat.

  8. get a Mac. One example of how easy they make life: I wanted to put a larger hard drive in my macbook. Not only is there no bollocks bout invalidating the warranty, if you backup with something like TimeMachine, you can create a boot usb device, put the new drive in and rebuild it with everything being restored to the new disk. Simple.

  9. Had my MacBook for five years and would never change back. Now have iphone and ipad all good. And what about the cloud man so cool. Just means I do not forget to put some dates in one and not the other. But it is good.

    Regards Steve

  10. You shouldn't need any more opinions by now. But if so, chalk up another one to Mac.

Macs are pricier, but then Ducatis are pricier. You get what you play for. The design of the MacBook is far nicer, classier and sturdier. If you go iPhone and/or iPad, the compatibility is fairly seamless with the Mac.

PCs are preferred by people who (a) want to save money or (b) like farting about with computers. If you just want the damned thing to work and do stuff on it, the Mac is a better choice.

But be aware that Macs are now very complicated. That is to say that to provide a good user experience, there are a zillion files whizzing around in the background. The days of messing about under the bonnet are over. I work in a Mac shop part time and the difference between the technical know-how of our staff and that of the average user is immense. Consequently, much of our time is spent correcting user error.

It's a bit like fiddling with your suspension. You could - all the knobs are available. Or would you rather take it to a suspension specialist?

  11. I've ad a mac 8 months now wouldn't go back now so easy to use apple store so helpfully even set it up in store so you up & running when you get it home excellent service

  12. I wouldn't put any information into the cloud that you're not happy to be public domain etc .. it can be, and has been, hacked into. That's not an Apple problem per se though.

  13. put myself an over the top - top of the line everything - PC together for the price of a small mac. works like lightening in heavy PU use phostoshop on weird resolutions, starts in a blink...

i do have an Iphone and Jobs has been a master at making things easy.... he has been even more masterfull in letting people pay absurd amounts of money for this....

    grtz

  14. I'd say Pc. I use Microsoft security essentials, which is FREE, takes up very little resources and is brilliant. Way better then norton/ Mcaffe shite that you have to pay for.

The reason I say PC is price. I feel that a lot of what you pay for with a mac is the name and styling. Inside them is nothing new and for the equivalent price you can get one hell of a PC, or spend less and still get one that would out perform the mac.

    They do look good though.

  15. Mac = My First Computer

    IPhone = My First Smartphone

    Lol

    ;)

I have both, macs never crash you know....lol Yeah right!

  16. Mac every time

  17. I shall get MAC next

Windows/Linux i have not yet had them running with no issues
    Crashing the biggest one
    Windows XP hmmm

    I love my apple :-D
    Never let me down yet!!

  18. I sued to have PCs, but I switched to Mac about 6 years ago and never looked back

  19. Apple are a great big pretentious bunch of poseurs.

    Anyway..

Ive used AppleMac computers for almost 15 years and i would NEVER go back. ive used PCs but theyve always been a nightmare, requiring constant maintenance (oh, and a very ugly interface). they are also very counter-intuitive (as they yanks would say)..or, simply confusing and frustrating.

I use my Mac for music production and it rocks. All of the very best music software is developed on, and primarily for Macs. Ive never seen a PC in a professional music environment, except for scheduling the diary.

it annoys me that Apple have become this big, slutty, up its on own arse company..they used to be cool, simply because of their quality..now theyve branched into all of these other areas theyre cool because, yes they are extremely innovative, but also because theyve become a fashion label...how annoying.

Now everyone thinks i love myself when i use my computer. Luckily, i dont have a laptop, or have any friends, so this isnt really a problem.

Anyway...once you try a Mac, theres no turning back. So easy, so creative, so get one...

    I think i should've been a writer instead of a waster.

Oh..and i forgot to add..the build quality of my iMac is second to none..the case is turned from solid piece of 'aluminum', as are the keyboard and mouse. the attention to detail on every part, even the battery cover for the mouse beggars belief. ahhh..and no fan noise...

PC's are cheap for a reason. thats because they are cheap. A Mac isnt expensive for what you're getting. it always cutting edge technology (how many new PCs have thunderbolt ports for instance). My mac has 16GB memory but is easily expandable to 32, next year it will probably be 64. the 27" screen res is incredible (thats why digital image pro's use them).
They just work, and i havent even started talking about OS X yet, which looked like the latest smartphone OS back about 10 years ago.
Mac OS X is their crowning glory, and for this alone and no other reason is cause enough to buy one.

i ran a G4 for 11 years, yes 11 with only a few problems in its entire life..i scrapped it for parts on ebay and made £300!!!! Ive kept the case though because it looks so cool.
...i also kept updating its OS right up until Intel.

Dont be fooled by the 'bargain' price of PC's either..this is a red herring.

to purchase software of comparable quality to apps such as iMovie, garageband etc etc (which is embedded into OS X and is free) the a PC would be much more expensive than a MAC..plus of course it will still crash because the hardware isnt integrated in the same way it isnt built on the rock solid UNIX platform..Still not convinced??

I wont talk about depreciation, because we all know how well a Mac will hold is residuals.

Well, because the Mac utilises intel processors any intel Mac come run Microsoft Windows AND OS X..Therefore, if you prefer windows for certain tasks, use windows..If your partner prefers the Mac, thats fine..its all in the same computer. You can even drag projects from Window, into OS X and then open them up in a 'Mac only' app (Such as Logic Pro)..
And this is funny....Microsoft Windows tends to run faster and is more stable on a Mac!!...its that hardware integration and UNIX again...

As with all things in life, if price was the only determining factor, then none of us would own a Ducati.
