Pet Cremation

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Dirty Leeds, Aug 25, 2019.

  1. we lost our little man last night the vet said it was the kindest way to let him sleep. Whilst we are struggling a bit emotionally we know we have to do the next stage we can go through the vet surgery but are a bit concerned as to the care and respect he will be shown without us been there.

Ashland’s vets in ilkley is where he is now so yes Yorkshire based and wondered if anyone had any experience of going through this or indeed experience of Ashland’s handling of this situation maybe and probably they are absolutely fine and been honest we are less than 24 hours in and it is hurting like hell so maybe not been totally rational.

Sorry for a slightly off topic but he loved motorbikes was watching me ride badly round the garden yesterday.

  2. talking from a dog mad family i get this. we normally have several dogs and have lost a few in the last 15years. all v,special and irreplaceable both in terms of loyalty and breed.
we are lucky enough to be able to bury them in the garden and plant a tree on them. so far me have a Shian tree, a Tizer tree, a T tree and a Hoorra tree. with a veterinary back ground the wife's quite pragmatic about these things but it feking kills me.

  3. Sorry for your loss mate, Its terrible at its worst, Not easy to think straight but im sure what you decide will be whats best,
We lost were Beagle 3 years ago and took her home, Shes now in were garden with a lovely head stone, Wish we went down the cremation road as we don't want to sell house and buy something more suited now, Some may find this strange but really don't want to leave her behind.

    Cheers Jack

  6. I feel for your loss.

Unfortunately, how do you know that the ashes are yours when they come back. IME (we’ve had 4 cats that have been thru this) we trusted the vet to make sure they were cremated alone and paid for it accordingly.

Two we kept in boxes, two we scattered in the garden they spent 20 yrs shutting in!! It’s what they would have wanted :upyeah:

I brushed him for the last time and kept the brush with his hair just so I could feel him one more time

    Thinking of you :broken_heart:

  8. Sorry to read this Carl, you and Debbie must be gutted.
What I do know, when we lost our last two dogs (on the same day:sob:) was that cremation was the best part of €600 each here:scream:. Feck that. They got buried in the garden (even though it's illegal here:confused:).

  9. Sorry to hear this. It’s life of course but never easy. They get under your skin. Do whatever feels right for you at the time. We have had one cremated and one on the garden. Circumstances at the time helped the choice. Regardless, we still miss them both equally. We found a quality pencil sketch I’ve each more helpful and as time heals a canvas photo of each one on the wall with the rest of the pack.
    Best wishes
    Richard

  16. Sorry to read of your loss Carl, he seemed a lovely little chap when i saw him a few months ago when you delivered my bike.
We have 3 buried in our garden, each with a tree planted for them. Feck knows what we`ll do if we move.

  17. my heart goes out to you, i dont generally give a damm about most people but wouldn't want to see an animal suffer and i know the love they generate. When we lost our springer we used an animal cremation service that guarantees its your animal and your animal alone that returns.
Barney now sits in a pot with a bright red rose bush that we talk to as barney bush! Especially when there are the gorgeous flowers on it! We chose to pot the plant rather than the ground for when we moved...

  18. Thank you David we took him everywhere in the van when we could he was often with me on trips even without Debbie he loved it in the van

  19. Thank you Andy I just got off the phone a place in Leeds a small place called called Yorkshire pet cremation service she was recommended and sounds genuine nothing sounds too much trouble ie going to see him again or taking a lock of hair etc also she will collect him from the vet and most importantly will just be him been cremated

I too am ok with people dying yes I get sad of coarse but this is so different it’s painful total grief I’m in the house walking around without my little mate shadowing every move or jumping out ambushing me I now got to go load the van normally he would come with me and every time I press central locking this little white head jumps up to meet me

Barny bush sounds a lovely idea.

  20. Condolences Carl, we have a terrier who's 10 so I'm only too aware this will be coming sooner or later.
I had to take a former cat to the Vet a few years ago and it isn't pleasant, but we took him home and buried him in the garden. I think ashes are more portable so may well suit you better.
Keep something to remember him and consider another - who won't be the same, but will still bring joy.
